YMMV / Mutiny on the Bounty (1962)

Go To

  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • The replica Bounty built for this movie sank in 2012, off the North Carolina coast. The ship's captain Robin Walbridge, was presumed dead after no trace of him could be found. One other crewmember, Claudine Christian, who claimed to be a descendant of Fletcher Christian, died in a hospital after her rescue.
    • An advertising brochure for the replica Bounty quoted a reporter saying, "Your children's children will not see her like again. Nor will you." After ths ship's sinking, it's certainly true.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: Marlon Brando may have been criticized at the time for refusing to let the ship be burned, but his decision let the ship be used for several future films, ranging from Yellowbeard to The Spongebob Squarepants Movie.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • When the ship was on display in Florida, MGM played recordings from the 1939 Mutiny on the Bounty, instead of this film.
    • In his later years, Marlon Brando wanted to use the ship for a personal project around his home in Tahiti. He backed out of it due to how much it would cost to rent the ship.
