YMMV / Moonlight (2007)

Go To

  • Critical Dissonance: Critics mostly gave the show poor reviews but it was received far more warmly by general audiences. Notably, on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic it has paltry critic scores of 22% and 38, respectively. Meanwhile, the audience score is 73% on Rotten Tomatoes and a whopping 9.0 on Metacritic; it also has a 7.6 rating on IMDb.
  • Designated Love Interest: Mick and Beth can sometimes actually come off having a father-daughter relationship, which is not what was intended (especially considering they first met when Mick saved Beth as a child and he's since appointed himself as her protector).
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Josef, largely due to his Deadpan Snarker tendencies and the fact that he, unlike Mick, doesn't get overly broody about his Dark and Troubled Past.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: At the end of the first episode, which features Goth girls obsessing over vampires, Mick is shown in flashback carrying four-year-old Beth out of a burning building, and it's established that he remained nearby to protect her as she grew up. What (then-topical) song could they have used as background music? If you guessed My Immortal and then immediately started laughing, you're right!
  • Platonic Writing, Romantic Reading Mick and Josef come off as Amicable Exes due to all the Ho Yay between them, of which there was enough to warrant its own page on this wiki.
  • The Scrappy: Josh, Beth's boyfriend. The reason for this is primarily due to him being the Romantic False Lead which stands in the way of the Official Couple Mick and Beth. He's also judgemental and jealous of their relationship, (rightly) suspecting Beth has feelings for Mick and vice versa. It leads to an Alas, Poor Scrappy moment when he dies in a particularly painful and horrific way while trying to stand up to a mobster.
