YMMV / Miranda (1948)

• Adorkable: Miranda actually whenever her Big Eater moments happen - especially when she steals a zoo seal's lunch and makes seal noises back at him.
• Alternate Character Interpretation: The Take suggests that Miranda is actually a Love Goddess whose function is to disrupt the various couples' dysfunctions for the purpose of getting them to work out their issues for the better.
• Escapist Character: Miranda is a beautiful mermaid with an impressive singing voice, has three men lusting after her and does not have to pick any of them - happily having fun with whomever she likes. She also has been described as a representation of post World War II optimism for her freedom.
• Funny Moments: Nurse Carey killing time in the history museum, and complaining about the form on a mummy's bandage. It's apparently bound to slip eventually.
  Guard: It's been there for two-thousand years.
  Nurse Carey: And it wouldn't satisfy the matron where I was trained!
• Heartwarming Moments: It's rather sweet to see Isobel - who'd been a henpecking fiance the whole time - coming to Clare's actually sorry about the downfall of her engagement. Her and Nigel patch it up immediately, and Isobel even offers to let him destroy some of her things as payback for ruining the painting. Of course he doesn't.
• Relationship Writing Fumble: Betty can sometimes seem like she's got an Entitled to Have You attitude towards Charles (David Tomlinson), who has far more chemistry with Miranda. One could be forgiven for assuming that Betty is the Romantic False Lead here.
• Retroactive Recognition:
  • Nurse Carey is played by Margaret Rutherford, who would later be best known for playing Miss Marple in the Miss Marple films.
  • An Uncredited lift boy is played by Gerald Campion, who would later be best known for playing Billy Bunter in Billy Bunter of Greyfriars School.
• Special Effects Failure: When Miranda 'sings', the song being heard doesn't match up with Glynis Johns's mouth movements.
