YMMV / Mario Mix

Go To

  • Fan Nickname: "???" is often referred to as "Sports Mix".
  • Funny Moments: Can't be an FNF mod without it.
    • Everything about Hotmetal. He's just as much as a riot as Coldsteel, down to his name and his version of the piercing rant.
    • The only thing PS135 canonically fears is Uncle Grandpa.
    • "Lookin For MILFs" has a mysterious Luigi plush contact Mommy Mearest on Omegle; the song pretty much tells you exactly what he wants with her. Mommy Mearest herself has the utmost unamused look on her face, and she ultimately disconnects the call partway through the song, only for the doll to then connect with a confused BF.
    • "Insert" is about BF breaking into the home of the creator of Mario Mix, FireMarioFan, in order to rap with him, and includes Fire getting mad at both Boyfriend and Polyfield for hogging the song. The end of the song even implies Boyfriend got kicked out.
    • At one point during "Hired", Dorkly Sonic shows up to assist Boyfriend during the song, but no sooner does he show up than he gets shot by Dorkly Mario and left dead on the ground. Dorkly Mario simply calls him out before continuing the song.
    "That guy... he's an asshole."
    • "Final Smash" is as just as good as "Virgin Rage" in both music and comedy. And for a bonus, it's also a brilliant Take That! towards Smash Bandicoots attempt at taking the Mario Mix title for his own. Towards the end of the song, Smash forgoes all originality and just starts singing a riff from "Triple Trouble", something Fire isn't too happy about.
Fire: Wait, are you SERIOUSLY just singing Triple Trouble? YOU LAZY BASTARD!
    • Taken straight from "Doomsday", the climax of "Disperazione" has Waluigi scream out in anguish. Boyfriend responds by happily shouting "Yeah!".
    • In "Soup Silencer", just like "Cereal Killer" before it, the whole thing opens up with an intimidating look at Emperor M before Morio.mov drops in out of nowhere. And judging by Emperor M's response that's akin to Lord X's, this isn't the first time this has happened.
Emperor M: Come to pester me again?
    • "???", the Mario Mix of "Omnipresent", has several of the Mario Mix cast, from the dead serious likes of PS135, Emperor M and Fajer to the more comedic likes of Morio.mov and Hotmetal, facing off against a PNG of a monkey within a basketball court. And then the end of the song reveals it was All Just a Dream.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Morio.mov is an Adorkable ball of fun wrapped in a italian mans body, and he travels the cosmos to put smiles on people's faces. The jolly tune in "Soup" implies that Morio invited BF and GF over to do his job and just have a fun time.
    • Framed is Mario after being successfully framed by Bowser Jr. during the events of Super Mario Sunshine, becoming a Hero with Bad Publicity. Knowing this, him taking his loss in stride and asking for a rematch with Boyfriend after "Denounced" is extremely sweet.
Framed: That was… fun! How about I charge up my friend and we can try again?
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Prior to the release of "Final Smash", a fan-made Cover Version of "Virgin Rage" was made, which was between FireMarioFan and Smash Bandicoot. Misfire herself even commented on the cover, which remains pinned to this day by the uploader.
    Misfire: I AM AWESOME
  • Memetic Badass: Monkey 32 in "???" qualifies as one, being dubbed as the best basketball player in Mario Mix, and it shows with him emerging victorious against EVERYBODY involved.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • PlayStation 135 Explanation
    • Welcome Old Mario Mix Explanation
  • Unexpected Character:
    • Given that Oogtar is an obscure character from the Super Mario World cartoon who has only ever appeared in that show and not since, it was rather shocking to see him alongside Yoshi as a duo in "Mario is Missing". Especially when Robotnik was solo in "Triple Trouble".
    • As all the songs prior were remixes of Vs Sonic.exe songs, "Dire Attempt 2401" came as a surprise because it is instead a remix of the sole song in Friday Night Funkin' — Below the Depths, "Sink", which is completely unrelated to Vs Sonic.exe.
    • As "Her World" only had a few previews and the song is completely unreleased otherwise, a Mario Mix of said song in "Shell Slam" blindsided many people. Koops being the character Luther's equivalent Cooper possessed was also a shock, as many would've expected it to be Luigi instead, or even Goombella since she's the first and main party member in The Thousand-Year Door.
    • "Disperazione" is not only the first appearance of Waluigi in Mario Mix, but it's also the first remix of a song to not be related to Sonic at all, being "Doomsday" from Mistful Crimson Morning, opening the door to many new possibilities for future remixes. It helps that the song's name and what it was a Mario Mix of was concealed behind question marks when it first got released on Misfire’s channel.
    • After a two month and a half hiatus from "Mario Mix", no one had expected it to make a return with newcomer Fajer, an EXE expy, after Misfire initially said she'd never make remixes of "Faker" and "Black Sun".
  • The Woobie:
    • The souls under PS135. Much like their Sonic.exe counterparts, they all fell to the killer resembling their friend and forced to serve under him. Luigi and Oogtar are special cases as they aren't actually dead. The former is barely clinging onto life, yet is still under PS135's control, while the latter watched his entire village burn to the ground and went insane from losing everyone he ever loved. He ended up joining PS135 out of fear.
    • L 2401 is a version of Luigi who got trapped under the courtyard's fountain with a curse much like how Peach and the Toads were trapped within the walls. However, Mario wasn't able to break the curse with the star power, and has been trying to find a way to save his brother for 4 years. Luigi has been suffering, but has been fighting to break free. His 2041th attempt to break free happened to be when Mario was close by and he tried to help him that time. Unfortunately, he failed, causing the boos to drag Luigi back down. Mario now goes to the fountain everyday, hoping to see his brother again. He carved the initials "L is Real 2401" on the statue.
    • Framed is a version of Mario from Super Mario Sunshine who failed to prove his innocence and was sent back to prison. Once that happened, Shadow Mario went back to the Mushroom Kingdom and reigned terror upon it. When Framed returned home to help the kingdom's subjects, they began to treat him the same way the Piantas on Isle Delfino did. He would then be exiled from the Mushroom Kingdom for good, losing everything he ever had in the process. Framed then turned to E. Gadd, being the only person who knew of his innocence, and he took him in, fixing up F.L.U.D.D. to the best of his ability and teaching Framed all about machinery. Years later, the professor died of old age, and Framed, now a mechanic, learned about universal travel using the backwards long jump and left his world behind. He now travels other worlds scavenging parts to fix F.L.U.D.D., since he's now his Only Friend.
