YMMV / Madoka Magica Try Another Story

Go To

  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Some of the playable characters have ultimate attacks that involve them drawing on the power of their witch form. This concept dates back to the WIP videos days, meaning it predates Magia Record's introduction of Doppels by years.
    • Also, in this game, Walpurgisnacht is rendered vulnerable after its barrier was pierced by (among other attacks) giant versions of magical girl weapons. Nearly the exact same thing later happens in the Arc 1 ending of Magia Record.
  • Game-Breaker: Devil Homura, as you might expect, is incredibly OP. She has a host of passive buffs, including immunity to all status ailments. Her time abilities and insta-kill attack pretty much trivialize the otherwise incredibly powerful Fake Law of Cycles. She also has magic that removes buff and positive status effects from enemies and a Magia that debuffs all enemies while dealing massive damage.
    • Ultimate Madoka has a host of passive buffs due to the Law of Cycles ability, has an all-targets attack that also buffs the party, and her Hyper Madoka Beam Magia hits incredibly hard. If you use the False Bow of Cycles, which you get from beating Fake Law of Cycles, she gets even more skills with incredibly useful effects, from absorbing enemy health to removing buff.
    • Final Form Tart hits like a truck, can heal the party while attacking, and has a Magia that deals instant death to any non-boss enemies.
    • Kazumi is of the Boring, but Practical variety. Her Subaru form has a passive that buffs the entire party, and her Kazumix magic, which normally heals 30% HP for the entire party, is boosted to heal 50%. As long as she's standing, there's almost no running out of health for your team.
    • Surprisingly enough, the student forms of Madoka and Sayaka. They are unaffected by SG draining attacks due to not being magical girls, can rack up EP very quickly, and have extremely powerful Stun-inflicting attacks and group heals. As a bonus, enemies won't target them until all other characters are down.
  • Player Punch: The optional death of the numerous magical girls.
    • After you defeat Charlotte, you get a mail from Yuki saying that she couldn't reach Nagisa and asking if you know where she is. Later, police show up in the street looking for her. Considering you have to actively ignore Nagisa to make her witch out, this ends up making you feel even more guilty.
    • If you decide to kill Asumi Kanna, Homura mercilessly shatters her Soul Gem just as she was thinking how she should apologize to Elise.
  • Unexpected Character: Pia Undo. Her sole appearance was a crossover with Divine Gate.
    • While Kosane Kiriha was technically a Madoka protagonist, her story was radically different from the rest of the franchise, and she was not exactly an Action Girl, so her inclusion comes as a surprise.
    • The inclusion of Asumi Kanna was also surprising since she wasn't even an official character.
    • Suzuka Ando, the extremely obscure publicity character for Madoka Magica Online, was another surprising inclusion.
    • Finally, there's "Masked Sayaka". A muscular, half-naked Wasteland Warlord is definitely the last thing you expect to see in a magical girl game.
