Main Story

• Oriko and Kirika's confrontation with Homura concludes with Oriko delivering a brutal "The Reason You Suck" Speech at Homura for abandoning countless worlds and countless Madokas, driving Homura to the brink of tears. What ultimately broke her, however, was Kyubey revealing that she was responsible for Madoka's massive karmic potential. When Homura realised that all the Madokas she failed to save, including the one that asked to be saved from Kyubey's lies, were gone for good, and that she was the reason Madoka couldn't have lived a peaceful life as an unremarkable girl, she was finally brought to the brink of despair. If it weren't her friends separating her Soul Gem from her, she likely would have turned into a witch on the spot.

Magical Girl Story and Sub-Events

• Yuki is the first original magical girl you meet and an absolutely ray of sunshine. Her backstory, however, involves her losing her best friend to Soul Gem corruption and developing a terrible fear of losing those close to her as a result. This comes to a head if you fail to save Ruki from death, causing Yuki to witch out.
• Yuri's backstory. She fought alongside Homura for so long and witnessed the deaths of friends and comrades over and over again alongside her. And in the end, she lost even Homura, her only companion in her journey, to despair. If it wasn't for Suzuka snapping her out of it, she very well could have met the same end.
  • Homura's witch transformation (as shown in the page image) is also heart-wrenching. She endured so much pain, so much suffering, but the knowledge that she was responsible for increasing Madoka's magical potential finally broke her.
    Homura: Tsubaki... I'm sorry. I can't... go on with you... anymore.
• Asumi's backstory shows how she became the sadistic little jerk we see in the game. She went through a Trauma Conga Line: losing her loving mother, being rejected by her father and adopted by an uncle who constantly abused her, and being bullied at school. She was cruel because cruelty was all she knew. To make matters worse, even knowing all that, you're still given the option to kill her, just as she was thinking about making amends.
• Satsuki was originally a talented singer with a promising future, but ever since she made her wish to revive her younger brother, everything started falling apart. Having to support both herself and her brother with magic, her magical girl life started eating into her regular life more and more, forcing her to give up singing. When even that was not enough, she resorted to murdering magical girls and stealing their Grief Seeds, becoming a serial killer with a double-digit body count. Her innocent wish ended up destroying her life.
  • If you encourage Satsuki to keep doing what she does, she eventually ends up dying and near witchification in an alleyway after a heist goes wrong. Her last words before witching out were her exclaiming that she doesn't want to die and she wants to keep living with her family.
