YMMV / Love, Death & Robots: "The Witness"

  • Awesome Art: While the episode itself is a little bit divisive, its art style has become a fan-favorite style of the show, with many people comparing its trippy, comic book-like visuals to that of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. It helps that the short's director, Alberto Mielgo, was a visual consultant on that movie.
  • Broken Base: The episode's trippy nature. Some love it, often comparing it to that of the works of David Lynch or an episode of The Twilight Zone (1959), while others are too weirded out by it or unsatisfied by the episode's Gainax/Downer Cliffhanger Ending.
  • Fridge Horror: The predicament of the man and woman. Are they trapped in a "Groundhog Day" Loop or an Ironic Hell? And just how long have they been doing this!?
  • Jerkass Woobie:
    • The woman. She hears a gun struggle between a man and woman in the apartment across the street and, rather than call the police immediately, she opts to close her window on the noise instead because it's distracting. However, it doesn't mean she deserves her fate of being trapped in an endless death loop.
    • Possibly the man as well if the end of the episode is any indication, as he witnesses the gun struggle and watches while smoking a cigarette instead of calling the police. That said, it's implied that he will take matters into his own hands by pursuing the woman in search of answers, which is likely what perpetuates the loop no matter who the "victor" of the previous loop was.
