YMMV / Loomian Legacy

Go To

  • Friendly Fandoms: With Doodle World, due to them both being Spiritual Successors of a Roblox Mon game that got taken down by a copyright claim from Nintendo around the same time.
  • High-Tier Scrappy:
    • Out of all the starters, Zuelong is considered to be the best starter, if not the best out of all the Loomians. Despite its frailty, its great ranged attack backed by its excellent speed stat means it can outspeed almost anything, even another Zuelong (if one of them has the higher speed stat) and many of its best moves are not only powerful but have a relative low energy cost, allowing it to deal great chucks of damage while not getting tired fast. Its Electric STAB hits most of the types neutrally and has Ancient STAB to coverage any types that does resist it, and the Rally update gave it Chilly Chomp/Blaze Chomp to counter any Plant or Earth type. While it does have its checks and counters, Zuelong can simply pivot around them via Ancient Roar, a Support move that lowers the foes' Melee and Ranged Attack and swapping itself out with another ally. This makes Zuelong hard to pin down and overall a pain to deal with.
    • Obsidrugon is loathed by many because of its one move, Beast's Slumber. It's a Support move that not only heals itself by restoring a huge chuck amount of health and energy for three turns at the cost of succumbing into sleep, but it increases its Melee and Ranged Defense, making it hard to whittle it down. Obsidrugon already has stellar Melee Defense and its go-to abilities are Sharp Edges and Resilience, the former which damages any Loomians that do contact moves, makes attacking it with melee worthless and the latter increases its Melee Defense by one stage from any attack it takes, giving it more bulk. It's STAB, Primal Slash, and Raging Tackle deals chucks of damage, though the latter will deal recoil damage to the user's HP depending on the damage output. Scapegoat allows it to sit behind a decoy and either buff up with Power Focus/Sharpen or restore health with Beast Slumber and buffing its defenses making the scapegoat harder to break. Worse, the Rally update allows it to learn a strong Earth-type move Earthquake to replace the weak ranged attack Mud Splatter (since Earthquake plays to its strength of having a great base power of 90 and going of its decent Melee Attack stat), defeating most of its Light-type counters since some of them have a second typing weak to Earthquake and its Metal counter, Searknight. Mega Chomp is another another Rally Move it can learn which counters said Light types. This combination of moves makes Obsidrugon a scary tank and/or wall to fight against. What prevents it from becoming infamous as Zuelong is that its Ranged Defense is fairly average, so a strong range attacker can put a dent to it and its low speed makes it possible for the enemy to revenge kill Obsidrugon. Also as seemingly broken Beast's Slumber is, Obsidrugon will be inflicted with sleep to itself, so one could switch into Obsidrugon and start setting up buffs, leaving Obsidrugon as setup fodder.
    • As of the Rally update, Mootune and Trumbull are a pair of cow and bull that have dominated ever since their debut. The former has Tone Deaf, which boost sound-based moves by 20% which along with its STAB typing and excellent 134 Range Attack can deal quite the damage, even more so with its Rally move Raging Howl. The latter has by far the best Melee Attack along with great Melee Defense, boosting it further with Battle Horn which increase its M Attack and M Defense by one stage along with removing every status condition in the field, making it hard to wall and take down. Its secret ability, Brute Force, makes it even more dangerous as it can hit even harder with certain moves at the exchange of secondary effects. Both do have mediocre M Defense and R Defense respectively and slow speed (the latter does have Quick Pounce to negate it though) but good luck surviving long enough to exploit their weakness. The Holiday update has nerfed Mootune's R Attack to a manageable but still strong 114 and got a buff to its Melee Attack from a weak 42 to a stronger but still pathetic 62 but those stats has been since reverted back as of v0.2.5 and its Tone Deaf boost has been nerfed to 10%. Trumbull was also affected by it for its Battle Horn move, which got a increased Energy Cost from 40 to 60 and it only gets rid of its affected status effects once. Despite this, they remain as the most dangerous Loomians to fight against.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Pokémon Sword and Shield would also have its own Fire-type rabbit starter line that can learn kick moves.
  • Low-Tier Letdown: Swolder is considered as the weakest Bug-type and perhaps the weakest Loomian overall. At launch, it stats aside from its 90 Melee Attack are less than 80. It has been outclassed by Terrafly who not only has slightly better stats but can set up Poison Barbs functioning as a Hazard Setter along with other moves that gives it more roles, making it the premiere Bug/Toxic type. This leaves Swolder in the dust with its mediocre stats and having no notable roles to carve out. Later updates did buff its overall stats, mainly its Melee Attack to 100 and now 115, a notable leap from its average 90 and has gained several Rally moves such as Body Slam and Mega Chomp which goes well with its buffed meaty M Attack and Rejuvenate which gives its HP recovery. Time will tell if these changes improve Swolder in the long run.
  • Scrappy Mechanic:
    • Not seeing the Melee/Ranged/Support icon on the move slot during battles. Which is odd as those icons did show up on display but only in other non battle menus such as viewing your Loomians. Downplayed as you can memorize what move does which or guess from its name but it does create a bit of a hassle to check if you forgot what move is melee, ranged or support.
    • During PvP, there's no indicator on who's battling and who isn't, which the indicator was present in Brick Bronze. So you may end up requesting to someone who is busy battling. Negated a bit in the 2v2 and spectate update where a TV screen at the Battle Colosseum shows which users is currently battling.
    • Rallying relying on step count. This lead to lots of tedious walking and it won't count if you're in Battle Colosseum and Trade Resort. The rally Loomiboost will be active even when you don't have a Rally Leader and/or if you're not in Adventure mode, leading to it becoming a waste. Both are fixed in a later patch where Rallying is now time-based and remains in effect if you're not in Adventure Mode and the boost will pause if there's no Rally Leader or if you're not in the main game.
    • The streak system in PvP for some. You earn 1 CP per win, a total of 3 for causal and 5 for competitive if you keep winning in a row. However, the prices for items are surprisingly expensive, requiring you to grind a ton of CP and going against other players with different skill levels will lead to inevitably losing the streak and rebuilding it will take a lot of time. Doesn't help you earn so little points compared to the prices at the shop for most items and some are the only ways to get them, making some mastery challenges a lockout. With no reliable and alternative non-PvP ways to earn CP, losing players don't have much compensation or comeback to make up for this. You can shell out some ROBUX to buy CP depending on how much you need.
    • The Boost Tokens may boost up a chances for a SA/alpha/gamma Loomian, but it isn't always a guarantee the desired Loomian will show up. This could lead to a situation where you cannot find any desired Loomian for an hour even with a boosted chance, rendering the token use useless. Worse if you paid it with ROBUX, meaning you now have wasted ROBUX for a Luck-Based Mission.
    • As of the V0.3.11c update, this was downplayed a little bit with the Pity Gleaming or Pity Roaming system, which guarantees a Gleaming or Roaming if you haven't found one within 256 encounters (Or 128 encounters if you own the Gleaming Charm). The counter will also reset if you find a Gleaming Loomian before then. While this Gleam Hunting method was initially criticized at first due to a misunderstanding with what the feature was intended to fix. The criticism returned a week later after two Rainbow Wisp Gamma Protogon were found in one weekend using the method.
  • That One Attack: More like That One Support Move. Obsidrugon's Signature Move, Beast Slumber. It allows the user to sleep but increases its melee and ranged defense and restores a huge chuck of health after each turn until it wakes up, losing its defense buffs in the process. This makes it hard to whittle it down considering Obsidrugon already has stellar Melee Defense and has the ability Sharp Edges, wearing down physical attackers. Once it wakes up, it's most likely healthy and will retaliate back hard. Unless you have a set up move to take advantage of it being asleep or hit it hard with a super effective move (preferable with a STAB) or target its weaker ranged defense, Obsidrugon will wall you and demolish you when it wakes up. It's Rest jacked up to eleven.
  • Tainted by the Preview: Some fans were disappointed in the Mount update when it was revealed that Trumbull would be the only free mount in the game so far while other Loomian mounts would need to be brought for 100 ROBUX with Duskit being 150 (both need to be registered first before being bought), leading to some fans wanting the saddles to be brought with Loomiancoins instead or a price drop.
