Time to pick a Doodle.note

Doodle World is a Mon game created by wish_z and others made on the Roblox engine. It serves as the Spiritual Successor to their previous fan game based on Pokémon once known as Project Pokémon. The game can be found here.

The story takes place on an island simply named "The Island." You're living out your normal day-to-day life when your mother notices a flyer for the Key Hunt competition being hosted by DoodleCo. She pushes you to enter, but to do so you need a Doodle of your own, so you get one from the nearby professor.

The story follows you and the Ragtag Bunch of Misfits you build along the way getting into shenanigans varying from wacky to frankly very depressing as you hunt for the ten keys held by Doodle Tamers all over the island.

Doodle World provides examples of:

  • A Dog Named "Dog": The island which the story takes place on is named "The Island."
  • Apologetic Attacker: In the Arid Mines vault, Zavier apologizes to TJ, whom he is trying to erase, claiming that the ends justify the means.
Zavier: I'm sorry... but the ends justify the means. This is all to stop the same mistakes from occuring. Chronos, erase him.
  • Battle Butler: According to Quincy, the reason he's rusty at battling is because Reginald would normally handle Doodle battles for him. Although we've never actually seen Reginald battle, it can be assumed he's rather proficient.
  • Black-and-White Morality: Choices that affect the Karma Meter have an obvious right choice and an obvious wrong choice. Of course you won't destroy the heavy, historic door to get to the maze behind it when a bodybuilder is begging you not to and offering to open it for you. Of course you'll give such a small amount of money to the homeless beggar. Of course you won't be unimaginably rude to Erika when you're leaving DoodleCo Academy. That is, of course, unless you're going for minimum karma.
  • Broken Bridge:
    • A broken gate on Route 3 blocks the way to Route 4. It will not be cleared until you visit Mr. Riffraff's lair and set off the Event Flag of rescuing the "kidnapped" DoodleCo employee.
    • Graphite Maze is blocked by a heavy wooden door that can either be broken down or opened by a bodybuilder who uses it for his training routine. You have to trigger multiple Event Flags in Graphite Forest, including finding an axe, then approach the door to trigger the bodybuilder showing up. Your choice on how to get into the maze affects your Karma Meter.
    • Graphite Temple cannot be reached until a puzzle is solved in Graphite Maze to allow passage to the portal that leads to the temple.
    • A literal broken bridge leads to Runic Island. It is repaired after completing the accompanying sidequest given in DoodleCo Academy.
    • Route 12 and the Doodle Printing Station are blocked by piles of garbage in Lakewood Tunnel. They are cleared after you earn the third Key, but you have to battle either Rufus or Inari to pass the time.
  • Chilly Reception: The entire town of Graphite Lodge treat outsiders horribly due to Craig's influence.
  • Crystal Prison: Maelzuri imprisons Craig in one after you fight him in the Crystal Caverns by trapping his consciousness inside the Opal Orb. You carry said Opal Orb around for the rest of the game.
  • Cult: The Louis Fanclub, although it desperately tries to convince everyone otherwise. It could almost work.... until you step into their base, which is complete with sacrifice circles, statues of Louis, and torches as the only light down there.
  • Desert Skull: The Arid Mines has multiple Doodle skulls in various places. They resemble the skulls of Gowatt.
  • Diverging Evolutionary Phases:
    • Heatza can evolve into either Meltimaw or Gigarlic depending whether it knows the move Fatten Up upon evolution (Gigarlic if it does, Meltimaw if it doesn't).
    • Seamsquire evolves into either Seamstress or Seamknight depending on gender (Seamstress if female, Seamknight if male).
    • Flaskit has four separate evolutions depending on the evolutionary item given to it, or if none is given at all (Noxvul if the Strange Catalyst was given, Endovul if the Strange Solution was given, Exovul if the Strange Substance was given, or Vuliable at Level 29.)
  • Evolving Title Screen: As new updates are released, the background of the title screen that shows your current Doodle team and stats such as play time changes to show an overhead shot of the most recently released area. In-between the release of Runic Island and The Oasis, the title screen music was changed to be the music that would play inside The Oasis. The music was also changed with the release of the Beachgoer, Hallerween, and Christmas 2023 events, the title music being the music that plays inside Beach Bay, Sinister Sanctuary, and Snowy Summits, respectively.
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: The Doodles are Living Drawings. Hence, Doodles.
  • Expy: As Doodle World was formerly Project: Pokemon, several Doodle designs take inspiration from, or have similar roles to Pokemon.
    • Rosebug and Nibblen: A pair of early route Insect types, one of which is part Poison, resemble Caterpie and Weedle.note  Although with Rosebug gaining the Plant type upon evolution, it's closer to Sewaddle and Venipede.
    • Louis being worshipped everywhere In-Universe calls Pikachu to mind.
    • As with any Roblox creature catcher, there is an expy of Eevee. This comes in the form of the Flaskit line.
  • Fire, Ice, Lightning: Hattrix's Spellcaster trait boosts the damage of Fire, Ice, and Spark-Type moves by 25%. Its tasks require it to use Firebolt, Snowball, and Shock twenty times each, moves that belong to those three types.
  • First-Person Snapshooter: A photographer in Lakewood Town will ask you for help in taking a picture of a Fruitoad if you talk to him. Accepting will put you into picture mode, where you have to press the picture button at just the right time to get the clearest picture possible. The photographer is willing to accept a slightly blurry picture, but do it perfectly and you'll get some extra rewards. This happens again in von Sweetsville, with you needing to take a picture of von Sweets' factory in order to get Poor James to accept Bonbon's bag of candy.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: While the group is searching the Arid Mines vault, a blue lightning blast strikes from the entrance seconds before the camera pans to Zavier and his Chronos, who arrived while the group was distracted.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Zane has a neat X-shaped scar along his left cheek, right below his eye. This mirrors him with the twist villain of the Oasis arc and one of Zane's most hated enemies, Victor Solis, who has a deep scar running vertically across his left eye.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: NPCs and certain Help Center Requests will address/refer to the player by name. If the player has a display name attached to their Roblox account, it will use that. If not, it will use their Roblox username.
  • Infinity +1 Element: The Mythic type. Only the Food and Crystal types resist it, and it only has four weaknesses, itself being one of them. There are currently zero Doodles with the Mythic typing, and Mythic-type attacks on your Doodles are unobtainable at the moment. Some Doodles can learn Mythic-type moves, but they're all in the Support category.
  • Karma Meter: Certain choices, like deciding whether or not to give money to a homeless beggar or what you say to Erika when leaving DoodleCo Academy for The Oasis affect your karma. Such choices are made known to the player as they decide. Currently, the meter affects nothing.
  • Level Ate: Von Sweets' Factory is an entire route made up of nothing but candy. The only wild Doodles you can encounter are Food-Type.
  • Level Limiter: The Level-Down Cube is an item that does Exactly What It Says on the Tin— it levels down your Doodle. They can be bought at any Doodle Depot and are incredibly cheap at a measly $200 per pop (for reference, a single Basic Capsule is double that price). This can be done for a variety of reasons, such as to complete "Level Up" Doodlepedia tasks or to get a friendship evolution before the level cap is hit.
  • Life Drain: Leaf Sap, Plant Sap, Life Sap, Mind Drain, Nutrient Drain, Siphon Soul, and Drain Life are all damaging moves that also restore the user's health.
  • Living Clothes: Chronos looks somewhat like a black robe. It is once described as "a piece of cloth but possessed."
  • Living Drawing: The Doodles are.... well, Doodles. They are created by being printed, they are erased when they go down in battle, and can even have different appearances based on how they're drawn. (See the different Skins each Doodle can wear.)
  • Living Toy: Twigon, Wyvern, and Drakothread are all living plushies that yearn for someone to love and care for them.
  • Never Say "Die": Justified, as this is a game on Roblox, a platform for kids. The only one who really does this is Zavier, as he is the most violent villain by far. Instead of referring to death, he has done the following:
    • Saying "give me the key and I will spare all of you" instead of "give me the key or I'll kill all of you."
    • Threatening to "burn [everyone] to a crisp" with Chronos instead of threatening to kill everyone.
    • Threatening to disintegrate Mr. Riffraff instead of threatening to kill him.
    • Vaguely stating that what happened to Erika in a previous timeline "wasn't pretty."
    • Ordering Chronos to erase TJ instead of killing him.
    • Averted when Suzie explains that the Shadow Clan is known for espionage missions and assassinations, albeit infrequently. Inari quickly dismisses the part about assassinations as untrue.
  • Mons as Characterization: Mister Riffraff has a Dramask as one of the Doodles on his team, further influencing both the Duality Motif set up by his two-toned appearance and his Large Ham nature.
  • My Rules Are Not Your Rules: The level cap imposed by Key collecting does not apply to NPC tamers, who will sometimes have Doodles above the level cap for the current area the player is in or have attacks or Doodles evolved at a much lower level than would be ordinarily obtainable by that point in the game.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted. There are two Zanes: Zane from the Oasis, and Rebel Zane, a Tamer in Route 12. Granted, it would be very hard to get the two mixed up, as one is a major character while the other is a completely optional battle in a completely optional area.
  • Reference Overdosed: Although there aren't many Shout-Outs in the base story or dialogue, there are are a lot of them when it comes to skins. And we mean a lot.
  • Retcon: In the Oasis part 1, the Key the group is hunting down is consistently referred to as the "Life Key." However, in the Oasis part 2, the same key is consistently referred to as the "Miracle Key" instead. This was changed again with the release of Route 8 to the Mirage Key.
  • Ret-Gone: Zavier threatens to (and nearly does) do this to TJ in the Arid Mines vault. Thankfully, Chronos ignores the order, as it either wants nothing to do with something from a different timeline or cannot kill a human being as per the Elder's orders.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: The ten keys were used to seal away something that, if unsealed, will create the apocalyptic future that Zavier hails from.
  • Trashy Trailer Home: Multiple von Sweetsville residents, including Bonbon and Albert, live in rusted, worn-down trailers.
  • Unwitting Pawn: The player and Quincy, at least according to Mr. Riffraff.
  • Villain Team-Up: Mr. Rifraff and Zavier team up to get the keys in a cutscene that shows the latter has been watching you the entire time. It does involve a bit of Teeth-Clenched Teamwork, though, as the latter threatens to disintegrate the former if they are lying about their side of the deal.
Mr. Riffraff: Help them obtain the keys, and they will be yours in the end. Fate wills it.
  • Warp Whistle: Junjie's Expedited Express, also known simply as The Subway, can teleport you directly to major towns and places unaccessible otherwise, such as Chef's Valley and Social Park.
  • Wham Line: A multitude of them, actually.
    • What Mr. Riffraff says to his minions after the player leaves his lair and Teneson comes to pick up his employee.
Mr. Riffraff: Teneson is now in play.
    • There's the reveal of who the real DoodleCo Academy Key Guardian is.
Zavier: You couldn't even bother telling them, Erika? That you are actually the key guardian.
    • Then there's the reveal shortly after that about the origins of the protagonist's friend TJ.
Zavier: Originally, you weren't here in the previous timeline. Your existence means that I have no idea what is going to happen in this timeline. So you need to go away. Permanently. Chronos, erase him.
    • Two in one scene regarding Riffraff, both delivered by Portia.
Portia: You're Lucas Rimbaud, one of the three original employees of DoodleCo... And the killer of my mother.
  • Wham Episode: The scene shortly after earning the Thunderstorm Key where a figure only known as "???" who we later learn to be Zavier destroys Graphite Temple and Quincy's plane as he threatens everyone, the group narrowly escaping. The player now has to deal with the fact that someone very dangerous is after them.
  • Wham Shot: The shot of Zavier standing on a cliff overlooking von Sweetsville, revealing that he has been watching your group the entire time.
  • Wretched Hive: Von Sweetsville is a town filled with poverty and addiction. Many people are homeless, and all except Suzie can't seem to live without von Sweets' candy.
