  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Is the Head Chief Executive really an evil person, or was he driven to madness by the Sweet Air? Maybe a combination of the two?
  • Funny Moments: In the last book, after Charlie and his friends rescue everyone from the Corporacy, he asks everyone what they want to do now that they're free. Everyone, even the villains! Their answers are presented in a big, numbered list. Here are some of the best answers:
    14. George wanted to join the circus too, but he was embarrassed to admit it.
    15. The tigers wanted to stay with Mabel; in fact one of them nearly cried just at the idea of going anywhere without her. note
    19. The bees had flown away.
    26. The [Head Chief Executive] wanted everybody to listen to reason, so that things could get back to normal, but... well. He was shouted down.
    30. Alex didn't know what he wanted, but he'd think about it.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The Corporacy, especially their main headquarters. It's full of "Sweet Air," an airborne drug that forces its breathers to be happy. It takes an excellent author to make a peaceful, happy place seem like hell. Just the thought of being kidnapped and robbed of your free will is terrifying.
  • Unexpected Character: Aside from Mabel Stark (although in retrospect she makes sense, as long as you Hand Wave her living in the future instead of the past), of all the political figures Charlie could meet to aid him in his quest, the King of Bulgaria has to be the oddest choice.
