YMMV / Les Misérables: Shōjo Cosette

Go To

  • Anvilicious: In the final chapters, it is constantly insisted that people can change.
  • Awesome Music:
    • Kaze no Mukou is an uplifting song that introduces the hope and willpower of the series.
    • "Yume de Aou ne" is heartwarming and memorable. It reflects the will to resist and the love, which are key themes of the series and the original book.
  • Broken Base: Some people love it, some people, while they still prefer the book, like the anime for what it is, some hate it because it's different from the book, and some hate it simply because they outright assume that it's ruined simply by the promo art and the slightly cutesy character designs.
  • Funny Moments: Jean goes to Cosette and tells her he must leave her in one of the most heart-wrenching ways possible. He soon departs to Javert's carriage... only to find that Javert's gone and he just stands there dumbfounded. Cosette runs outside and Jean just says "it seems I do not need to go."
  • Iron Woobie: Valjean as usual.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Javert, especially towards the end. He had a harsher childhood than his literary counterpart.
    • Eponine's not at all pleasant as a kid and is only slightly better as an adult, but she still has a ton of insecurities.
    • Mme Thenardier is... not a nice person, but is undoubtedly the Lesser of Two Evils in terms of herself and her husband. It's implied that she's a victim of Domestic Abuse, she's forced to rot in prison when he and the Patron-Minette escape, and she seems a bit... broken during her final appearance, after Eponine's death.
    • Gillenormand has a run as this when he ruins his relationship with his grandson with his own jerkassery, but manages to grow out of both when Marius fully recovers from the barricade.
  • Moe: Cosette.
  • Most Wonderful Sound: Hearing a cheery violin music during the show's Eye Catch indicates that there's something good to happen. The same goes for hearing a dark, heavy violin music, as it indicates something bad will happen.
  • Narm: Laigle's reaction upon the death of Monsieur Mabeuf is rather amusing, in contrast to the serious situation.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • Alain comments that his mother could have been saved in Montreuil-Sur-Mer, but there were no means to save her.
    • When Javert all but breaks down in front of Valjean and describes his childhood and backstory, we actually get to see Javert as a child struggling against the wind, all alone in a world that abandoned him. And then he talks about how he had to throw his own parents back into prison, because they could never change. It's absolutely heart-wrenching and even Valjean looks deeply affected. Poor guy.
    • Eponine's Heroic Sacrifice.
    • The Last Stand of the Barricade Boys. Earlier in the same episode, Prouvaire's speech to them moments before being killed is both this and heartwarming. The apparently happy song makes it worse.
    • Cosette being beaten by Madame Thenardier—something even Eponine and Azelma object to, after having been pretty awful bullies to Cosette themselves. What makes this scene worse is the voiceover by Fantine writing to the Thenardiers how glad she is that they're taking such good care of her daughter.
    • Fantine's death is every bit as heart-wrenching here as it was in the book. The musical Fantine got off lucky compared to her.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: A part of the fans of the book were not happy that Javert decided not to commit suicide, since said suicide was to contrast Javert with Valjean.
  • The Woobie: Fantine, Cosette, Azelma when her family lose everything and lived in poverty, Marius, Gavroche, etc.
