YMMV / Leia, Princess of Alderaan

• Alternate Character Interpretation: Leia has a way of going cold and clearheaded in an emergency. When Kier gets seriously injured at the end of the book, Leia thinks she can get him medical attention and save him. The moment he tells her he was trying to collect information about the Rebel Alliance to turn it in to the Empire, she stops and simply lies so he can die happily, and keeps holding him as he passes into unconsciousness and after several minutes dies. Was he beyond saving, or could she have used a medical kit to get him enough time to take elsewhere, but was so icily clear-headed that she decided it was better if he died?
• Continuity Lockout: There are a number of specific connections to Bloodline due to being written by the same author about Leia in different points of her life, with Princess of Alderaan explaining how a younger Leia became an important rebel leader and Bloodline explaining why an older Leia started the Resistance.
• Harsher in Hindsight:
  • Andor features a far harsher and darker look at the Rebel Alliance than Leia glimpses here, one that justifies Bail's Anger Born of Worry whenever his good-hearted but completely naive daughter tries to get involved. The series also featuring Mon Mothma casts her role in this book differently - she must envy the Organas for their close supportive relationship and for having a child that loves them and shares their politics. It's easy to see how rumors of Business Trip Adultery between her and Bail would seem plausible, and it puts a grimmer cast on her willingness to let Leia participate in the Rebellion. Mon Mothma had to go against her principles with her own daughter to keep funds moving - from there, it's not hard to be willing to risk another teenager who's so eager anyway.
  • On a Real Life level, When Leia brings a shipment of vaccines to the Chalhuddans their leader scoffs and says she must think they have no pride. Leia becomes furious and starts yelling at them - saying if her people's children were dying and the only way to save them was to swallow her pride, she would do it, she would get on her knees in the dirt and beg and plead and do anything to preserve her peoples' lives. Anyone who would not do the same doesn't deserve to be a leader.
