YMMV / Lakeview Cabin Collection

  • Demonic Spiders: IV's giant rats. As if dealing with a mansion full of cannibalistic psychos wasn't bad enough, these things practically One-Hit Kill their victims, and have a knack for appearing when one least expects it.
  • Funny Moments: The Baby writing "Come play" on one of the cabins? Creepy. That cabin being the one you can have sex in? Hilarious.
    • If you manage to get almost everyone killed before any killers even spawn, the Baby will automatically spawn, almost as if he's trying to prevent you from humiliating him with your ineptitude.
    • Get behind the sewer monster. Follow him into the theater. Pelt him with popcorn and other items. Watch him pause and then attack thin air, instead of turning around to attack YOU. Probably a bug in his AI, but still hilarious.
  • Sequel Difficulty Drop: Unlike in previous episodes, in Lakeview Cabin V dying does not result in Permadeath, although the episode is much more puzzle-centric (some to the point they're difficult to decipher) than the previous two.
  • Sequel Difficulty Spike: When Lakeview Cabin IV opens with a screaming, naked, mutilated woman running at you before falling into a deathtrap, you know this is going to be more intense than the last episode.
    • The mansion and especially the slaughterhouse are FILLED with deathtraps. Failing to peek before entering rooms can lead to an unavoidable death.
    • The killers are far weaker, but there are also far more of them; again, failing to peek before entering rooms can lead to a swift end.
    • There are freaky mutant rats that lurk in the vents, and can appear in a room with very little warning. They're far faster and deadlier than the killers. There are a few safe places where they won't appear (any room without a vent) but as they're nearly impossible to kill, they effectively mean you can't feel safe in a room with a vent, EVER.
    • Enemies once alerted to the player will set off alarms that will put all of the other killers on alert, making progressing FAR more difficult.
    • The final gas can in the hidden room of the slaughterhouse is guarded by "Pigsy", a nude masked killer wielding a chainsaw; once awakened, he'll relentlessly pursue the player from room to room until killed. He's as hardy as the killers in III, can kill you in just a couple of hits, and can break down locked doors and destroy traps. The only upsides is that he'll fight the cannibals and rat monsters, and that he can lose sight of the player, forcing him to wander randomly until he catches wind of them again.
  • That One Level: IV is much harder than any of the other episodes, due to the fact that the game's already unforgiving nature shines; most of the enemies are rather strong, triggering an alarm is a death sentence, the highly damaging rats that often come out of nowhere, and the randomized nature of most of the house's rooms lend to an incredibly difficult episode. Not helped by one of the side-quests of the game being mandatory to complete Episode V (though this can be circumvented by looking up the solution online).
