YMMV / Knockout

Go To

  • Cliché Storm: The film heavily relies on tropes and plot beats from the Rocky series and various other boxing and sport films, with the only difference being that the protagonist is a woman.
  • Fight Scene Failure:
    • During the fight between Sandra and Tessaro, there are several shots clearly showing that Tessaro's punches aren't actually connecting, and Sandra's reactions to them are noticeably delayed from when they were supposed to make impact. In addition, Sandra is clearly just letting herself get punched for most of the fight with no attempt to fight back or defend herself, despite the film saying that she's giving everything she can.
    • While the final bout between Belle and Tessaro is comparatively better choreographed than the other fights in the film, the Slow Motion effect when Tessaro headbutts Belle clearly exposes that their heads haven't actually touched.
  • Narm:
    • Mario is given many of the film's most dramatic scenes, such as Sandra's paralysis and Chuck's death, but his broken English and wooden acting make these scenes feel more comedic than intended.
    • During the championship fight, the commentator expresses disbelief about Belle and the idea of women's boxing in general. While it's supposed to reflect that Belle is being underestimated by everyone before she proves herself, the commentator's blatantly nonsensical logic instead unintentionally makes him come off as a Straw Misogynist who's way behind the times.
Commentator: Can someone as attractive as Belle really have what it takes to be a champion?
    • When the referee is giving instructions in the final fight, he addresses Belle by her first name while addressing Tessaro by her "Terminator" nickname. It's hard to tell which of the two, and his ability to keep a straight face with both, is more ridiculous.
