Hubert Gagnon (September 29, 1947 - June 7, 2020) was a Canadian actor and voice actor from Quebec.
He was the go-to-dubbing voice actor in Canadian French language for actors such as Mel Gibson, Robert De Niro, Richard Gere, Dennis Quaid, Nick Nolte, Christopher Walken, Steven Seagal, Jeff Bridges, and William H. Macy.
However, the role he was best known for was Homer Simpson, whom he voiced for the first 27 seasons of The Simpsons. He was also the second voice of Homer's father, Abraham "Abe" Simpson, from Season 9note to Season 27, replacing the late Jean-Louis Millette in the role. Other notable animated characters he voiced include Optimus Prime in The Transformers, Mr. Ping in the first three Kung Fu Panda movies, as well as various Disney characters such as Bloat in Finding Nemo.
In 2017, it was announced that he would be replaced as both Homer and Abe starting with Season 28, due to Gagnon having to deal with an illness (later publicly revealed to be cancer). Thiéry Dubé took over as the voice of Homer, while longtime Simpsons voice actor Benoît Rousseau took over as the voice of Abe.
He passed away from cancer on June 7, 2020.
