YMMV / King of the Hill S6 E1: "Bobby Goes Nuts"

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Between Bobby not wearing shoes on his kicking foot, his foot being more in front instead of between Peggy's legs, and her somewhat pained-sounding voice after being kicked, it's possible that instead of her No Selling the attack due to a lack of testicles, he simply didn't land as solid a hit as his previous targets and she was able to take advantage of his lackluster knowledge of anatomy to trick him. Kahn outright claims "SHE BLUFFING! FINISH HER!"
  • Broken Aesop: While the episode tries to invoke the message of Honor Before Reason as to why one should not hit below the belt, the message falls flat when all of Bobby’s confrontations are with people who either don’t intend to fight fair or in the case of Hank and Peggy are much bigger than he is. Also the way that they regard hitting below the belt is that it should never be done, even when in a potentially life threatening situation.
  • Broken Base: Many fans are divided on whether the episode is one of the funniest in the series or a really out-of-touch and outdated example of forcing an Aesop in a hamfisted way. While Bobby shouldn't have defaulted to kicking his father in the groin so hard that it left him barely able to walk, Hank comes off as rather pretentious in his holier-than-thou attempts to assert that fighting dirty is never acceptable.
  • Memetic Mutation: "THAT'S MY PURSE! I DON'T KNOW YOU!"
  • Strawman Has a Point: Bobby correctly points out that a kick to the groin could be the one thing that could save him in a life-or-death fight. Hank, who seems to think a bully like Chane would actually fight fair, doesn't provide a proper answer other than it's "women's self-defense".
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Hank, who makes a point with Bobby about instead of going for the groin, he tells Bobby to go above the belt, to fight fairly. He however didn't count on that bullies themselves don't fight fair. Chane didn't with Bobby, who pretty much held him down to make him eat dirt. A better lesson would be don't go for below the belt unless it's absolutely necessary.
    • Peggy as well, for all but beating up her own son (even if it was "necessary") and gloating about it in his face, essentially being as much of a bully as the bullies that Bobby employed his tactic against.
