YMMV / Kid Detective (2020)

• Crosses the Line Twice: Principal Erwin stabbing himself in the chest and committing a brutal, painful suicide is unnerving and downright scary... only for him to regain consciousness a few seconds later and go through his death throes again, making it humorous. And then it adds a Reaction Shot of Abe to it, who quickly decides that yep, he needs a freaking drink, and he grabs one from the fridge chugging it frantically. This, of course, has an additional pay-off, since Abe also discovers a few bottles of Gracie's favourite grape soda.
• Nightmare Fuel: The plot twist in the film's final stretch: the seemingly genial and fatherly Principal Erwin kidnapped 14 year old Gracie and kept her as a Sex Slave for nearly 20 years.
• The Woobie:
  • Abe, who is lonely, depressed, and disproportionately disliked by the town (for the crimes of childhood hubris and revealing other people's petty transgressions to the public).
  • Gracie, who's been robbed of anything resembling a normal childhood and youth.
  • Caroline, dear god poor Caroline. She begins the movie an orphaned girl trying to find out who killed her boyfriend and finds out he was cheating on her and to top it off she’s a Child by Rape with a pedophile father and a traumatized mother who has little to no chance of forming any sort of relationship with her.
