YMMV / Jennings

Go To

  • Adaptation Displacement: The books started out as radio programmes on BBC Children's Hour.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: They books became hugely popular in Norway under the name Stompa. The Norwegian translations of the books spawned four feature films and a radio sitcom series in the fifties and sixties. Reruns of the radio episodes are still being broadcasted regularly, by popular demand. In fact, the Norwegian version has become so ingrained in Norwegian culture that a lot of Norwegians have been astonished to learn that the stories were originally English.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Jennings conceives a story near the end of Jennings Goes To School, based on taking the phrase 'wizard prang' literally and creating a modern setting where Wizard Prang, his wife Witch Prang and their son Goblin Prang hide their magical nature and use modern technology such as laundromats instead of cauldrons. An unimpressed Mr Carter hastily cuts off his pitch to Darbishire.
  • Woolseyism: The Norwegian translations are full of them, which may be why the Norwegian version got so popular.
