YMMV / Ice Age: Scrat Tales

Go To

  • Bizarro Episode: "Nutty Reflections" where Scrat and Baby Scrat's reflections become sentient and start fighting for the acorn
  • Broken Base: The ending of "Nut the End" Scrat seems to die of old age after having lost his acorn for good but after a lifetime of living happily with Baby Scrat.......only for him as a ghost to discover Baby Scrat had tricked him about the acorn's destruction so that he could have it to himself once Scrat passed away. This causes him to turn into a zombie in a attack of rage and try to go after Baby Scrat once again. To some fans this ruins some of the previous Heartwarming moments between the two since It makes a major part of their lifes being nothing but a manipulation to get the acorn or is just the regular Kafka Comedy to expect from Scrat and think other fans expecting a heartwarming ending were taking the character too seriously. There are also those who dislike it simply because it's the last Scrat production and some prefered a more definitive conclusion like Scrat dying rather that the usual Failure Is the Only Option ending where all goes south to Scrat.
  • Catharsis Factor: Scrat finally eating his acorn after two decades of chasing it, is perhaps the most satisfing moment in the entire franchise. There's a reason why it went viral.
  • Common Knowledge: Since they were released the same day, some seem to believe the short where Scrat gets his acorn is the ending of the series. The short was actually released separately the same day and is not an actual part of the series.
  • Delusion Conclusion: There's something really odd about "Nut the End" It suddenly has a Time Skip where Scrat dies of old age, but Baby Scrat hasn't aged one single bit, they are still in the same cliff and somehow they hadn't eated nothing in years and they are still standing, not to mention the Gainax Ending where Scrat becomes a zombie. A popular fanon is that is a Scrat's Imagine Spot where Scrat reflects what his life will be without chasing his acorn and more that a few viewers were surprised when the ending of the short didn't reveal that to be the case.
  • Fanon:
  • Fanon Discontinuity: Some fans ignore the ending of "Nut the End" after Scrat dies for those who prefered to end like that. If you search the clip in YouTube there's a big chance it will cut right after that point.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • After all these years, in a short produced behind the scenes and dropped the day of the series' premiere, Scrat finally gets to eat his acorn.
    • In "Nutty Reflections" when Scrat and Baby Scrat see their reflections on the ice, they play a little with over exaggerted expressions and they laughed at it. It's short, but still sweet.
    • In "Nut the End", after Scrat loses the acorn on a cliff (and being exaggeratedly destroyed), he looks at his hands, losing the one thing he loved the most... and then Baby Scrat slowly grabs his hands and smiles at him. Scrat's brain is suddenly filled with Baby Scrat, and without the acorn, he spends the rest of his life filled with joy with Baby Scrat, completely forgetting about the acorn. And when Scrat gets older, Baby Scrat takes care of him.
  • Nightmare Fuel: "Nutty Reflections" has a few unsettling elements that stand out in an otherwise very light-hearted series, given that the premise involves Scrat and Baby Scrat exploring an ominous-looking ice cave and encountering warped, seemingly-sentient reflections of themselves in the walls. It starts off humorous enough with the originals laughing and goofing off in front of their reflections in the style of a funhouse mirror, but the mood darkens when the reflections inexplicably gain autonomy and steal the acorn, then collapse the cavern and nearly kill the originals while savagely fighting over it. Nothing about the reflections is ever explained, though they at least seem to help the Scrats reach a Heel Realization about their rivalry.
  • More Popular Spin Off:
    • Merchandise-wise at least. Scrat Tales was promoted in some toys as a spin-off of The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild, given that one was a critical flop and forgotten almost inmediately after his release and Scrat Tales was a major Win Back the Crowd for the franchise. It's safe to say one is more popular that the other.
    • The series itself is popular, but it didn't went viral the same way "The End" did.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: How come Scratte didn’t come back? What would happen if she confronted Scrat again, as well as his new kid? Considering that she’s still living in the dino jungle in Dawn of the Dinosaurs and hasn’t directly appeared since, many fans saw this as an obvious opportunity to have her have some sort of role in the shorts, especially since this is technically Scrat’s final outing. But this never happens.
  • Unexpected Character: Like with The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild, many fans were surprised to see a Baby Dodo on the series, as most fans believed they went extinct some time after the second movie.
  • Win Back the Crowd: After the divisive Continental Drift and the much-reviled Collision Course and Adventures of Buck Wild, Ice Age fans were glad to have one good work come out of the franchise in years. Some fans dare to say it was the best thing to come out of the franchise since the first movie.
