• Americans Hate Tingle: When it aired in America, it wasn't very popular, and even in the modern day (where anime has since become mainstream in the US) it's mostly remembered because of the negative racial stereotypes. It also had an absolutely awful dub alongside choppy animation. Even people who adore retro anime refuse to touch this anime with a 10 foot pole.
• Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The series did become rather popular in Latin America, particularly Brazil.
  • It's so popular in Italy that it was dubbed twice and rerun as late as 2018.
• Ethnic Scrappy: Geronimo. He is a Native American who speaks broken English and wears a stereotypical headdress. Even the origin of his name has an offensive connotation.
• So Bad, It's Horrible: The American dub, which sounds like it was filmed in a bathroom. Here's an example.
• Special Effect Failure: In the first episode, the sound effects for the fireworks display sound like machine-gun fire instead of anything resembling actual fireworks.
• Superlative Dubbing: The Brazilian dub made use of many well known actors, such as Orlando Viaggi (Marty McFly) as Phoenix and José Carlos Guerra (Commisioner Gordon) as Geronimo.
• Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: Honey getting constantly attacked and backstabbed gets tiring to watch after a while.
• Values Dissonance: Many things.
  • Princess Flora's ethnic-stereotype suitors, especially Geronimo the Native American chief, who (in the English dub) speaks broken English and uses words like "paleface" and "squaw." There's also an Arab named "Oil Dollar" who also speaks similarly.
  • One of her suitors is also quite obviously a Nazi. It's cut out of the English dub, but obvious from his German sounding name and his all-black uniform with an eagle.
  • When Honey is in India, she is forced to wear a sexy Belly Dancer Outfit (despite being 14) and the Indian man (who talks like Apu) takes an interest in her despite her age. She escapes because he has a magic flying carpet.
  • The Africans are depicted with ridiculously large pink donut lips and wear bones in their noses.
  • Another example is scenes involving alcohol consumption, including the Hamelin episode, where Honey takes her first sip of beer (although she doesn't like it) and her pursuers stop by a beer joint to get drunk. And keep in mind, the English dub (unlike most anime brought to the U.S., especially in the '80s) was broadcast uncut on CBN Cable - a religious broadcaster.
