  • He Really Can Act: Steve Burns, who usually plays comedic roles, positively surprised many people with his dramatic performance as David, the way he can play a remorseless and at the same time tragic murderer impacted the opinion of many fans who only saw him as the funny guy from Blue's Clues.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Reg E. Cathey plays the drug dealer Bayliss and Pembleton end up arresting.
  • The Woobie: David Tarnovski, the school case murderer. He was attacked (physically and sexually), neglected by the people supposed to make him feel safe, and left without friends, as everyone was afraid of being around him and being attacked along with him. To make matters worse, despite being a murderer he is an ordinary teenager, friendlier than average, and very cooperative in the case even though he knew it would probably destroy his life, all with a big smile on his face. There is no sense of satisfaction in seeing him get caught, it is by no means a good ending, but also, there is no indication that he would have gotten justice any other way.
