YMMV / Homecoming: Morenatsu Revisited

Go To

  • Adorkable: Hiroyuki is shown to be this, being rather forgetful and being something of a kid at heart. He makes this sentai-esque call (Ban-Shaaaa) whenever he gets excited, gets worked up over the lack of internet speed, and becomes so focused on what to pack for Kyouji and Soutarou's soccer game that he ultimately misses the bus.
  • Awesome Music: Like the original game, this game boasts some really great music for a furry visual novel.
    • Here We Go Again, a remix of the original Morenatsu theme. A much more upbeat take while still having feelings of nostalgia.
    • A Band Called Avarice. The song that plays on the final battle in Shun's board game, and it certainly fits one, with highlighting the seriousness of the battle (in-universe at least) and having a wicked guitar solo. Also has a vocal version for Kouya's band Musikus, and it's just as, if not more awesome.
  • Broken Base:
    • The decision to make Hiroyuki his own character rather than a Hello, [Insert Name Here] character. Some prefer this decision for allowing the character to stand out on his own while others are disappointed for not being able to insert themselves into the story.
    • Shun's new personality was warmly received by those who found his old route too disturbing and were glad that the game was taking a more serious take on the character. On the other hand, fans who liked Shun in the old game feel the new one doesn't capture the same charm as the original's personality.
    • The character art being changed to better resemble the original game's designs. Some prefer this change, finding the resemblance to the older designs to be more appealing. Others are disappointed with the change, finding the older designs to be good as they were and offered a more unique look for the cast.
  • Player Punch: Rejecting Torahiko before his birthday in order to continue another character's route. In the original game this event was exclusive to Juuichi's route. Here, if you're playing any route but Torahiko's, you'll be forced to reject him on all of them.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Hiroyuki in the original was disliked for his writing inconsistencies, ranging from The Ditz, to the Only Sane Man, to even an outright sexual pervert. This version of Hiroyuki is much more liked for having a consistent portrayal that mixes the best moments his character had in the original and working with them.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!:
    • Many fans of the original visual novel didn't take kindly to the main character Hiroyuki getting changed from the Token Human to an Artic fox. This is mostly because as a human in the original game, it made him more relatable and because his named could be changed to anything the player wanted to call him. Making him into an animal doesn't make him as relatable as he originally was.
    • Likewise, fans didn't like that many of the characters had redesigns that had muscles reduced to make things look more realistic, even though fans didn't mind their original designs.
  • The Woobie: Soutarou. After his father died, he and his mother moved to Minasato to try and move on from the past. Unfortunately his dad's death caused him to become more shy and hard to open up to others until he met Kyouji. Also his mother constantly having to deal with people asking for money, later revealed to be debt collectors, and having to try and be positive about spending money, even when it's clearly over budget, has caused him to believe himself to be a burden to her.
