  • Draco in Leather Pants: Belladonna has a huge section of fans defending her as completely blameless for the Bomb incident. While the situation is presented as a Both Sides Have a Point, this defense ignores the fact that it was Belladonna and her temper that caused it in the first place. Even when the author clearly stated that while Bella had a right to feel that way she was wrong in making others miserable and bullying others, people still saw her as in the right.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • The biggest one is Arnick, thanks to his loveable Jerkass personality, no nonsense attitude, and his interactions/relationship with (the octoling) Tetrox (especially considering his Fantastic Racism). It's to the point that Chuggaaconroy used an outfit closely resembling Arnick's holiday outfit during the Bamboozler episode of his Splatoon playthrough, leading to Tamarinfrog creating this reaction to that episode (which was also featured in Chuggaa's following episode). And this was all before he even appeared in the comic.
    • Tetrox, due to being the only Octoling of the main cast, more carefree attitude compared to the rest of her team, and the aforementioned relationship with Arnick. There's even a Recursive Fan Fiction focusing on if she moved in with Arnick long before that happens in the original story.
    • Angelo, from being a man of few words, one of only non captain characters in the comics to be an S rank, and mysterious backstory that later reveals him to be an Inkling/Octoling hybrid.
    • Tanrine, as a result of her Genki Girl personality and appearance. This was lampshaded by "Blue" in one post.
    • Among the side characters, Kirsikka tends to get the most love, being Valdelma’s younger sister and having a crush on Sorrel (who has yet to recognize it).
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • The fact that one of the teams features an Octoling is this after some incidents featuring hackers playing as octolings in Splatoon's online mode and leading to inflicting some nasty gamebreaking bugs on other players as a result. Humorously lampshaded in this minicomic.
    • Even more so after Splatoon 2's Octo Expansion was released, allowing players to finally play as an Octarian fighting their way to the surface, and then getting to participate in Turf Wars and the like after they clear the new mode. Looks like Tetrox wasn't so far fetched after all.note
    • Tanrine "adopted" a little smallfry as a pet and named it Chip in a piece of fanart posted on Tumblr. Come 2022, and Splatoon 3 paired the player's Inkling or Octoling with a Smallfry.
  • I Knew It!: A common fan theory about Tetrox was that she was the Octoling who almost killed Whinter. This was implied and confirmed by Word of God in the Final Match arc.
  • Memetic Mutation: This comic was what started the 11th tentacle meme in Splatoon.
  • Ron the Death Eater: There's a vocal segment of fans who demonize Marian for her role in the bomb incident and what happened to Belladonna afterward.
  • Word of God: Much less "word" and more like "Drawing" of God, but Tamarin Frog drew examples for what Pokemon each of the main cast would get as a Pokemon. Notably all the leaders (except for Jonquil) get a Mega Evolution.
    • Team Splat Jam: Whinter gets Spheal, Vadelma gets Clefable, Logan gets Snorlax, and Marian has a Mega Gyarados.
    • Team Vitamin Ink: Tanrine gets Woobat, Taloupe gets Eevee, Angelo gets Altaria and Clementine gets Mega Mawile.
    • Team Petal Splash: Sorrel gets Bagon, Cosmo gets Porygon 2, Daisy gets Haunter, and Jonquil gets a Shiny Serperior.
      • Notably, this makes Jonquil the only leader whom is headcanoned without a mega evolution. Tamarin Frog chose this because he figured that it made sense for Jonquil, who would want to stand out.
    • Team Toxink: Cyanthia gets Froslass, Arnick gets Arcanine, Tetrox gets Weavile, and Belladonna gets Mega Kangaskhan.
