YMMV / Hero Elementary

Go To

  • Adaptation Displacement: Not many people realize that the show is based on a 2009 book called Super Hero School. This is because it is a very loose adaptation of the book, having almost nothing in common with it besides the concept of a superhero school.
  • Adorkable:
    • AJ comes off as endearingly nerdy thanks to his obsession with comic books.
    • Turbo Tina is really awkward yet cute when she fast-talks.
  • Awesome Music: The theme song definitely has a heroic vibe to it, most notably because of the chorus.
  • Broken Base: Some people think that the show would be better if it had villains, but others argue that villains would be out of place in a show oriented at very young audiences, and that the show's conflicts, such as missing animals, are more appropriate.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Many of the other students besides the Sparks' Crew are popular with the fans, to the point where they will flip out if they so much as cameo in an episode. For example, the elemental twins have cool designs and subvert stereotypes associated with their powers.
    • Invisigirl, due to being a morally ambiguous character in a very sugary show. While she's established as being a hero, she's also very sneaky and enjoys playing funny pranks.
  • Fanfic Fuel: Exploring the personalities of the other students, the famous Citytown heroes, and potential villains are prime fanfiction ideas.
  • Friendly Fandoms: Gets quite a bit of overlap with the Elinor Wonders Why fandom. They premiered in the same year, share voice actors, and both teach science in an entertaining way.
  • Moe:
    • Lucita is very idealistic and emphatic, making her quite endearing.
    • Benny falls into this thanks to his love of animals.
    • Sara is tiny and mighty, yet also has her cute moments.
    • AJ is really into his technology, and has his fun, nerdy moments.
  • So Okay, It's Average: While the likable characters and power system have garnered praise across the board, most viewers regard the show as just okay, citing that the plots are mundane and that the animation is choppy.
  • They Copied It, So It Sucks!: A lot of the show's detractors claimed it ripped off My Hero Academia, just because both shows are about superhero schools. This is despite the fact that the Super Hero School book that Hero Elementary was loosely based on predates the MHA manga by several years, and one of the most prominent example of a superhero school prior to My Hero Academia was in the mansion the X-Men take shop in.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: Due to the lack of Tertiary Sexual Characteristics, quite a few fans think Fur Blur is a boy, but she's actually a girl.
  • Watched It for the Representation: The series gained a lot of fans because of AJ Gadgets, who is not only autistic but also Black — a conscious choice on the part of the creators since Black children are less likely to be diagnosed with autism even though they too can be autistic.
