YMMV / Hazbin Hotel S1E2 "Radio Killed the Video Star"

Go To

  • Cry for the Devil: While Vox absolutely deserved to be humiliated by Alastor after slandering him, Al's comeback and response is so "shit your pants" terrifying and sadistic that you can't help but feel a little bad for the TV Demon.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Valentino's temper tantrum over Angel moving away from him and into the hotel is Played for Laughs in this episode. It becomes significantly less funny come "Masquerade", where we see the extent of what Valentino is capable of when sufficiently enraged without a fellow Overlord to reign him in and having his victim trapped in his domain. Regardless, it still shows how much of a Psychopathic Manchild Val really is.
    • Alastor's taunt to Sir Pentious that so few people have managed to even slightly ruin his coat becomes darkly prophetic after Adam not only completely ruins his suit, but also nearly kills him in the Season Finale.
  • He Really Can Act: Some viewers were a little iffy with Amir Talai replacing Edward Bosco as Alastor in Episode 1, as they felt he wasn't quite as menacing nor entertaining as Bosco's delivery. This episode, however, had Amir win many fans over he delivers a badass and terrifying performance in the song "Stayed Gone".
  • Narm: The scene where Valentino sends a series of mood-swinging voicemails to Angel is meant to be a terrifying depiction of an abusive relationship, and for the most part it is. However, some viewers couldn't take the scene seriously because just as Valentino switches his mood, he also switches his accent leading to unintentionally hilarious delivery of certain phrases. Specifically his over-the-top, bizzarely southern sounding delivery of "COCKSUCKING PIECE OF SHI-".
  • Woolseyism: In the German dub at the end of "Stayed Gone", instead of an Atomic F-Bomb, Vox lets out an admonished "Wixxer!"note  as a Call-Back to when he calls Alastor that at the beginning of the song in the German version.
