YMMV / Hayop Ka!: The Nimfa Dimaano Story

Go To

  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Jerry, Iñigo's kind, friendly and hardworking valet, is loved by fans who've watched the film.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: The story is dismissed by many for its generic soap opera plot but the film gained widespread attention for its high quality animation, being one of the unique and vibrant animated films to come out of the Philippines.
  • Popular with Furries: Local furries (who some have dubbed themselves as 'Furrypinos') are quite proud (whether jokingly or sincerely) of the fact that their first Netflix animated original happens to be an adult cartoon starring anthropomorphic animals. And then the Colbert Bump courtesy of Saberspark has had international furries' interests being piqued by the existence of a raunchy rom-com starring said animals, to the point that it was nominated for an Ursa Major award.
  • Questionable Casting: Fans have voiced their concern towards Netflix for casting Robin Padilla—who played the role of a mongrel named Roger—as Padilla is a staunch supporter of Rodrigo Duterte, with some demanding him to be replaced with a different actor.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: A musical sting that plays several times after Nimfa and Iñigo were flirting with each other seems to be heavily based off of the intro to Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get it On".
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: As the movie goes on, it gets a bit difficult to feel for Nimfa once she unapologetically cheats on Roger with Iñigo. Sure, Roger is shown to be a bit of a flake, but he still does his best to wine and dine her with what little money he's got. Then there's her treatment of Jhermelyn, her best friend, which looks rather mean-spirited when Nimfa rubs their relationship on her face, unbeknownst to the fact that Jhermelyn has been feeling like a third wheel. Her subsequent break-up with Roger and her reaction upon finding out that Roger has become Jhermelyn's live-in partner, who has admitted to Nimfa earlier that she would happily be a rebound should Nimfa and Roger separate comes off as petty and unreasonable as a result. This is rightfully lampshaded by Papa George when she rings him up for some advice and tells him all about the events that led to this.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: Don't let the cutesy art style and anthropomorphic characters fool you. This is a very sexually charged comedy with loads and loads of crude sexual references.
