YMMV / Happy Feet Two

Go To

  • Captain Obvious Reveal: Anyone who knows what a puffin looks like could probably guess from the start that Sven isn't actually a flying penguin.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Will and Bill the krill. As pointless as they are to the overall narrative, there are some people who found Will’s existential journey amusing to watch and liked his witty banter with Bill. In fact, many people actually found their subplot more entertaining than the main story with the penguins. It probably helps that they are voiced by two popular actors.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Erik is accidentally pushed by Lovelace and appears to be hanged by a rope around his neck, holding him up. Don't worry, he is fine afterwards, but Robin Williams had no such luck, unfortunately.
  • Ho Yay: Will and Bill have a lot of it. Special mention goes to Bill wanting to start a colony together.
    Will: We're both male.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • “I am one in a krillion” Explanation
    • When director George Miller was asked about Happy Feet Three he responded with: "If you put a gun to my head and said, 'You have to come up with a story for Happy Feet Three,' I’d say shoot me."
  • Moe: Erik, Bo and Atticus are utterly adorable baby penguins.
  • Padding: The movie features a few scenes that have little to no bearing on the rather thin plot. The krill in particular do not add much to the main story and do not even directly interact with the main characters.
  • Questionable Casting: Brad Pitt and Matt Damon as the comedy relief shrimp? You heard that right!
  • Sequelitis: Many feel that the second movie is just a mediocre rehash of what made the first movie so good. The shift to a Lighter and Softer, Denser and Wackier tone hasn't helped the franchise either. In fact, this sequel would be the last installment of the Happy Feet series thanks to the film failing to interest audiences.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • The scene where Bryan's pups cry and plead with their father when he tells them he won’t be able to escape the ice crevice.
    • The scene where Erik urges Sven to teach the Emperor Penguins how to fly. Despite his reservations Sven actually does try, though his efforts prove futile. It's particularly heartbreaking when he tries desperately to help reunite Seymour and Atticus.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Sven's mistrust of humans due to his discovery that they eat birds amounts to... absolutely nothing. He simply runs and hides when the humans come to the rescue, and returns when they leave, and never shares his discovery with anyone.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The CGI is noticeably improved from the first movie, with more crowds of dancing penguins and more amazing attention to smaller details, especially during parts of the movie where the audience gets to see things from Will and Bill’s point of view.
