YMMV / Gunfire Reborn

Go To

  • Complacent Gaming Syndrome:
    • When playing solo, a lot of people may play as the more durable heroes like Qian Sul, Ao Bai, or Qing Yian. There's nobody else to revive the player, so might as well prioritize survivability. As of June 2023, Nona joins their ranks - since Iron Wing can actually go to revive the player.
    • When playing in groups? Expect to see a lot of people playing Li or the Crown Prince. Alone, they are both glass cannons - but with someone else to take the heat off of them, they will absolutely flourish and can lay waste to enemies. What's more, if someone manages to pick up an electric weapon they will easily be able to apply the ever useful miasma.
    • Basically enforced with Tao who outright needs rapid-fire weapons, since her playkit involves needing rapidfire weapons to charge her Swords Out ability. Trying to use other weapons means most of her Swords Out-related damage and utility is being ignored.
  • Fan Nickname: More often than not, most players tend to just refer to the characters by their species rather than by their names ("Cat" for Crown Prince, "Dog" for Ao Bai, etc.) since it's easier to remember and more useful for coordination.
  • Game-Breaker:
    • While all of the main characters are strong, the absolute strongest of them all is probably none other than Crown Prince himself. One may think his kit is fairly weak compared to the others, and at face value it is. His allies get insane stuff like high mobility, doubling up their weapons or high burst damage, while he gets a quick stun on a somewhat long cooldown and a poison grenade. However, said poison grenade is the crux of his kit, as it inflicts Decay. Hitting an enemy with Decay and then blasting them with lightning damage inflicts Miasma, which deals 9% of an enemies health over a period of 5 seconds. Miasma can stack nine times, totaling 81% health damage over five seconds which is doubled against armor and shields, meaning Prince will melt any enemy he comes across. While this total is lowered to 0.75% against elites and 0.3% against bosses other than being halved by the number of players, efficient perks and strong guns mean that Crown Prince has probably the highest damage potential in the game. And the kicker? That short stun gives you just enough time to set the combo up.
    • The Talisman weapon itself is a decent weapon for any character that relies on either crits or elemental damage, due to its homing nature going for the critical weak-points of enemies and the fact that you can change its element on the fly. It even pairs well with the Gemini enchantment that grants the other weapon's element to it, allowing you to take advantage of the above mentioned Miasma using either a corrosive or electric weapon and the talisman to be able to proc miasma every time elemental effects proc. Not to mention its alt-fire shoots out 6 of them which can lead to a world of hurt for the unfortunate victim of the barrage.
    • The Veteran scroll, provided you have it by the time you reach Duo Fjord, can be used to completely neuter all difficulty due to its permanent health bonus, with an Absurdly High Level Cap of 99,999 extra health points. This is achievable by encountering a Corrupt Monk and having it infinitely spawn Exploding Lantern Spirits that the player can farm for extra health points as much as they like, allowing whoever has the scroll to render themselves Nigh-Invulnerable provided they (and, in multiplayer games, their teammates) don't mind taking the time to do so. Naturally this game-breaking advantage extends to any effects that scale with health, such as Enduring Caster's skill damage bonus. The only downsides are that farming is slow & tedious, Veteran isn't a common scroll to find, and it can only be exploited like this after already making it through half of the game. This also applies to the Enhanced Veteran scroll and any abilities that instead scale with Shield/Armor.
    • For Reincarnation difficulties, if Ao Bai gets the "Atomic Bomb" Unique Spiritual Blessing, then expect Ao Bai to just obliterate everything especially if players get Talents that increase his explosion damage, radius, and the ability to throw two grenades for the price of one. Coupled with a few scrolls that enhance his secondary skills like "Double Exhilaration"note , "Untold Effort"note  or skills in general like "Brutal Gloves"note  and "Spirit Bible"note  and watch as Ao Bai's damage goes through the roof.
    • Li, by virtue of being a DLC character, is a fairly powerful character, especially due to her element being fire, which nearly every enemy is vulnerable to due to it being effective against health. Her Spiritual Flame can be charged up before firing and with the right ascensions can become a blazing fireball of death that can wipe out enemies en masse to the point where one doesn't need to use their weapons. Of course, this is balanced out by the fact she is a Glass Cannon that can die quickly if one isn't careful, but the damage output this fox can produce can make that a non-issue.
    • Nona, by virtue of being a DLC character, can also be quite powerful. While she herself is quite weak (though not nearly as much of a Glass Cannon as Li), her mechanical companion can easily run around the room and serve as a distraction, and one talent means it will run over and attempt to revive you. This already makes her great right off the bat and she only gets better from there.
    • Thunderclap Gloves on paper are weak. And they are initially. But if you're able to get them with any of the exclusive inscriptions, a few decent normal and rare inscriptions and the share element gemini inscription, suddenly they become capable of wiping out hordes of enemies in seconds. Since its beam hits all enemies near the initial target, you only have to aim in the general direction of an enemy and it'll do the job. They pair especially well with Crown Prince, who in addition to focusing on elemental damage, reliably has decay on hand via his smoke grenades. Gemini the Thunderclap Gloves with a high% fire element effect chance and you can cause tons of explosions while forcing enemies to fight each other. It only gets crazier with certain occult scrolls.
    • Radioactive Gauntlets. Take everything about the Thunderclap Gloves, and give it a free 100% damage boost and auto lock on. If you're lucky enough to get its exclusive... exclusive inscription note , you basically have quadrupled its damage. All this at the small price of having to play a rhythm minigame. It still gives you the option of either the melting miasma, or horde annihilating explosion with the share element gemini inscription.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • Due to the Cloud Weaver's ability to hit remotely and jump from target to target at the user's prompting and gestures, people have called them "Yondu Arrows".
    • Some have jokingly called Longling Tomb "Mogu'shan Vaults" due to the amount of terracotta warriors being fought.
    • "The occult scroll of Sticky Keys" Explanation
      • Related, the Wind God will cause a stage hazard that will make players have to mash the dash key to get out. Sometimes players end up getting Sticky Keys toggled trying to mash shift to get out.
    • "A freaking BRICK."Explanation
  • That One Attack:
    • The Golem's rock rain is a big source of deaths for people. Early on, all you have to do is dodge the laser, then all his rocks. Which unfortunately look just like benign particle effects. Later on, and on higher difficulties? The golem will use both at once - meaning you are constantly having to look up to find out which rocks will go with you and forward to make sure you are behind a hazard so you do not get shot by the laser.
    • The Ship's artillery barrage. Take out some of its turrets, and suddenly you have whole swathes of the arena covered in instant-death cannonballs. The zones that it's targeting are clearly marked, but unlike other genres like MMOs, you often won't be able to see them immediately since you'll be looking at the boss to shoot it, so you'll have only a few seconds to look down and spot the circles, then possibly dash out.
    • The Wind God's tornado attack will constantly home down on a player and require them to mash the dash key to get out. Some people can easily trigger "Sticky keys" by doing this.
  • That One Boss: Both of Stage three's bosses count and are even hard on normal difficulty:
    • The ship, due to its required multitasking and needing to be very very fast on your toes (And absolutely have a great internet connection and ping). What's worse, you need to pick up a cannonball and carry it to the cannon - the cannonball is dropped by a flunky, who has a tendency to stand right in the artillery strikes meaning you can't just dash in. It also spawns jellyfish that constantly damage you and force your attention away from the boss.
    • The Hydra isn't much better - it's a Glass Cannon in boss form that gives very little time to line up shots and requires almost perfect precision when it is most vulnerable. The only mercy here is that it can go down just as fast as it can take you down as it has no shield or armour to wear down.
  • That One Sidequest:
    • If you get a vault with "Stone enemies"? You will be in for a very very rough time. You have to deal with all enemies while ignoring the statues, which come to life if you hit them. Unfortunately? They are clustered together meaning it's very easy to hit them by mistake (Especially if you use your secondary skills) and the stage itself is very very narrow with nothing to hide behind. This means it's very very easy to get overwhelmed.
    • The Platform Hell vaults themselves can be quite difficult - especially since you get a timed mission to get the bonus.
  • Popular with Furries: Considering almost the entire cast of the game consists of animal people, the cast had been the point of attention with many furry fans of the game.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: While you do get revived if a stage boss is beaten, you do not get any rewards. This unfortunately means people often Rage Quit if they die on a boss and run out of time to get revived. While intended to discourage people from simply making one or two people do all the work for them and be carried, it ends up making people playing squishier heroes permanently fall behind for easy mistakes.
