YMMV / Greenland

  • He's Just Hiding: Plenty of characters who aren't accepted by the government evacuation program (such as the family's neighbors) have fans hoping that they somehow made it to one of the shelters some other way
  • Recycled In Space:
    • It's 2012... WITH METEORS!
    • Also Deep Impact without the meteor destroying plot.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The entire movie manages to contain some awesome visual effects, but kudos goes to Clarke.
  • Win Back the Crowd: Released in 2020, it was one of the best reviewed disaster films in years, possibly decades. Disaster films have a reputation for spectacle over substance, absurd set-pieces and unlikable characters. Butler's previous entry in the genre, Geostorm, was widely mocked as ridiculous. Greenland managed to include a compelling and engaging story that allowed you to care about the characters, mostly reserved the disaster aspect to the background (unless the disaster influences the plot), and invoked realistic scenarios regarding the type of disaster threatening the planet and how people might react to it.
