Funny Moments: Juice Terry's highly inappropriate speech at Post Alec's funeral in A Decent Ride. Similarly, later in the book, Jonty's mother's funeral ends up being a disaster of epic proportions, as she's too big for the crematorium's oven and causes it to explode.
Mr. Blackie tries to impress the importance of punctuality on Billy, Carl, and Gally, asking what would have happened if Jesus had been late to the last supper.
Carl: "Eh would've goat fuck all tae eat."
Gally needling Juice Terry over his foreskin, which provokes disproportionate outrage in the latter.
Tear Jerker: Gally, stepping off a bridge in front of his horrified friends. The Glue Gang's devastated reactions must be contender for most heartbreaking moments in Welsh's works, and the pain leads to a decade-long dissolution of lifelong True Companions. Also noteworthy: one can easily assume that the circumstances through which it was carried out, cruel as it was, stems from the desire to spend his last moments with his friends after one more night of fun and camaraderie, and die at the height of contentment rather than in lonely despair.
The Series
Jerkass Woobie: Face it, by the series' end it's hard not to feel sorry for Eli, homicidal urges notwithstanding.
The Woobie: James. He starts the series as a Butt-Monkey constantly pranked by his friends and underappreciated by his mum, and it only goes downhill from there - he's the one who finds the body, his boyfriend's the murder victim, he gets arrested for the crime and is later kidnapped, beaten and almost killed by Cal's murderer. Throw in a hefty dose of Manly Tears and you really want to give him a hug.
