YMMV / Franz Ferdinand

  • Broken Base: Which is better, the faster or slower tempo for "Take Me Out"?
  • Epic Riff: "Take Me Out", either the very beginning of the song or the repeating guitar in the chorus.
  • Foe Yay Shipping: "I'm Your Villain". The title is just the beginning... "If I could laugh...we'd be laughing lovers."
  • Funny Moments: The music video for "Piss Off". For that matter, the fact that they not only wrote a completely serious song called "Piss Off" but even made a music video for it at all!
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: They have a devoted Chilean following.
  • Ho Yay:
    • "Michael" is an unsubtle sexy love song to a man. Further adding to the Ho Yay is that occasionally, in live shows, the line 'so come and dance with me Michael' is changed to 'so come all over me Michael' and the line 'stubble on my sticky lips' to 'stubble on my sticky hips'.
    • The line 'your famous friend, well I blew him before you' from "Do You Want To".
    • Legend states that when Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy first met, the fight they got into ended with them snogging.
    • "This Boy" takes on a whole new meaning when you know it was originally sung by a woman.
    • It's never stated just what they are doing in "The Dark of the Matinee".
  • Nightmare Fuel/Nausea Fuel: The music video for "Evil Eye".
    • A different kind of nausea in "Johnny Delusional" as the constant spinning has been known to give some people motion sickness.
  • Sequel Displacement: "Take Me Out" was the video that put them on the map, no doubt to the memorable Dadaist-style. It was actually their second video; their first was "Darts of Pleasure", which was a more typical music video.
  • Signature Song: "Take Me Out".
  • Song Association: Evil Eye has become a sort of unofficial theme song for The Magnus Archives within the fandom.
  • Sophomore Slump: You Could Have It So Much Better, while still quite good, is considered to be considerably worse than both Franz Ferdinand and Tonight. Most critics attribute this to the fact that it was rushed, releasing it about eighteen months after their debut in order to prove that they weren't just a flash in the pan, while they could take their sweet time on their debut and Tonight. They noticeably repeat lyrics more in YCHISMB than other works.
