Trivia / Franz Ferdinand

Go To

  • Colbert Bump: The band got recognition when "This Fire" became the Opening Theme for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
  • Promoted Fanboy: The band were fans of and influenced by Sparks, and they released a collaborative album with Ron and Russel Mael as FFS in 2015.
  • Real-Life Relative: The strange woman in the video to their cover of LCD Soundsystem's "All My Friends" is Anna McCarthy, Nick's sister. She also directed the video.
  • Real Song Theme Tune: Two of the band's songs ended up being used for two anime series: "Do You Want To" as the Ending Theme of Paradise Kiss and "This Fire" as the Opening Theme of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
  • Rule 34 – Creator Reactions: The members were outright gleeful when the topic of slash fiction about them was brought up in an NME interview. The lead singer Alex Kapranos once made a direct shout out to the band's Livejournal slash community on stage.
  • Similarly Named Works:
    • The song "This Boy", which is not a cover of the Fab Four.
    • The band is also named after a racing horse called The Archduke, which was named after the original Franz Ferdinand, as noted on the main page.
  • What Could Have Been: "Take Me Out" was originally written as jumping between slow choruses and fast verses, but the band couldn't get it to work. The fast intro leading into the slower rest of the song was the result of putting all of the verses first and all of the choruses second.
    • "Michael" was re-recorded as a duet between Alex Kapranos and Catriona Shaw of Queen of Japan, with the concept accordingly changed to a man and woman both competing for Michael's attention. The intention was to release it as a single, but the band decided that this version diluted the content of the song, so the album version was released as a single, and the duet version was relegated to a free download on the band's official website.
