• Fandom Rivalry: FFG has received opposition from the "Restore Utah's Flag" group, a movement that seeks to remove Utah's new flag and restore it's former flag for supposedly being "woke" and "canceling" Utah's history. The company has especially been targeted by hate due to far right conspiracy theories that the company was responsible for the new flag and was actively seeking to cancel Utah's history.
• They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: While most of the redesigns from the "Better State Flags" collection have received positive receptions, a few have been more controversial.
  • Their redesign of the South Carolina flag has been deemed unnecessary to some due to the original flag already being beloved, and many would argue that the redesign is worse than the original. Some argue that the symmetry in the tree makes it look more unnatural and the lighter shade of blue looks less like the night sky like the original shade was chosen to represent.
  • The flag of California is very divisive due to breaking flag rules with its use of text, yet the original remains more beloved than Michael's redesign. The redesign makes the bear a silhouette and removes the text, but many feel like this removes the charm of the original. Michael eventually came to agree and started selling the official flag of California.
