• Designated Hero: Even though spending Christmas working at the homeless shelter is a good deed for the time of giving, it's indicated that Brian only volunteered the family because he was too cheap and lazy to buy them actual gifts.
• Squick: Lois mentions how "humbling" it is to volunteer at a soup kitchen by telling a scenario of watching a grown man poop out the slit of his tattered pants.
• Unintentionally Sympathetic: While Peter was acting like a jerk, he does have a right to be upset when Lois demands he do a large amount of chores and then volunteer at the homeless shelter without asking him first.
• Unintentionally Unsympathetic: We are meant to side with Lois when she takes the family to spend Christmas without Peter, getting fed up with his selfish attitude after he refuses to volunteer at the homeless shelter. Only instead of going to the homeless shelter, Lois takes the family to spend Christmas at her parents' luxurious mansion. It gives the impression that Peter's behaviour was just a convenient excuse for Lois to avoid volunteering at the shelter herself.
