"Are you ready to join our family now?"
-Guardian Drippy

The Jellax Saga is a Sailor Moon Continuation Fic / Shared Universe by Zoe-The-Pink-Ranger and Chronorin, with assistance from Seer99 and contributions from various members.

Taking place after the end of the original series, Sailor Moon and Sailor Mercury explore an abandoned amusement park where some people have said to see a mysterious figure. There, they meet with Jamanen—a slime woman Droid who they fought in their battles against the Black Moon Clan. There, she reveals the ability to turn other humans into creatures like her, called “Jellax”, and is able to enslave both them and the rest of the Senshi. Afterward, she sets out an invasion on humanity, transforming millions in a short time, while the survivors forge a great Resistance to finally beat back the alien menace, even if it seems hopeless...

Or, if you ask the Jellax, Mistress Jamanen has returned the Senshi to their original selves and has been working tirelessly to bring the rest of humanity into the loving fold of the Jellax Family. Of course, humans, being humans, are trying to undo all of her hard work. Still, it won't matter; after all, this fight is one the Jellax are going to win!

The truth; it's complicated. In reality, the series itself has a strong case of Alternate Character Interpretation, with both humans and Jellax just trying to do what they think is best.

Can be found here, with stories specifically found here.

Tropes Contained in "The Jellax Saga":

  • The Ageless: The Jellax at least seem to be this. Especially considering Jamanen's age. This is also combined with Nigh-Invulnerable, since the Jellax are nearly impervious to all forms of damage (besides freezing).
  • All-Loving Hero: If there’s one thing everyone can agree on, it’s that Jamanen truly does love not just her own Family, but everyone who isn't her. The rest of the Jellax as well, since they all pretty much love everyone, Jellax or not, for simply existing.
    • Gooey (a.k.a. Sailor Moon/Usagi) is a more straight example, at least after Luna frees her from the Jellax Hive Mind.
  • Ascended Extra: Jamanen, of course. Exaggerated with her name “Jellax” itself, becoming the name of her original species rather than just her DiC dub name.
  • Ascended to a Higher Plane of Existence: The Jellax see their state as this, albeit in a more mainly physical and mental rather than spiritual way.
  • Assimilation Plot: A somewhat downplayed version of this trope. While the Jellax consider themselves to all be "one" with one another and arguably speaking the Jellax could be one giant superorganism, humans converted to the Jellax still retain individuality and a sense of self.
    • According to the Human Resistance and most human media, however, this trope is played strictly, and horrifically, straight.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Downplayed. While the Jellax do have a weird code of "all Jellax are fine" and "all non-Jellax need to be Jellax", the Jellax still hold to the human values of friendship, loyalty, compassion, companionship, and love. Even their aggressive conversion policy is done out of love for others!
    • However, Jamanen also seems to be very judgmental in regards to whom she shares her gift, with people like murderers, thiefs, and even bullies not being worthy and possibly getting killed instead. Still, she also allows for individual Jellax to be the judge, so there is a chance that they'll choose mercy instead.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Played with. While the Senshi are indeed loyal to Jamanen, it is more out of her "reprogramming" them after their initial battle so that they don't have free will anymore. Moreover, the rest of the Jellax have free will, but Jamanen's influence does seem to make them want to follow her orders about conversion without question. Jamanen was this, after it was revealed Sailor Moon's attack actually freed her from Chaos rather than destroyed her.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: In the first story, ''Jellax'', Jamanen was this. However, the reasoning is a bit strange; while the original writer claimed to hate Sailor Moon, and therefore was just using Jamanen for his Hate Fic, the rest of the fandom has different interpretations, the most common being Jamanen was faking it for a grander plan. For more info, check the recap page.
  • Color Motif: Red for the Jellax.
  • Cosmic Horror Story: Has traces of it. Jamanen and the Jellax are nearly unstoppable, have taken the Earth's only hope, and it's looking like humanity will not survive. The promise that Jellax conversion is more of a metamorphosis rather than a assimilation does not change the fact that, if Jamanen wins, homo sapiens as a species will be gone via transformation. If things from "Day Of The Jellax" say anything, humanity might also lose many of their old cultures, beliefs, and perceptions all in the name of "family unity". Worse, Black Lady has returned, begins to create an off-shoot of Jellax that are closer to what human stereotype them as, and if she is not stopped, she could end up being erased from the timeline! Steers into Lovecraft Lite, though, when you remember that Usagi is coming back showing there is hope that things can work out in the end.
  • Crossover: With Puella Magi Madoka Magica in the stories, "Most Crazy Magical Girl X Over" and its sequel, "Puella Magi Sailor Moon". It has yet to remain seen if any of these will be considered canon in the main storyline.
  • Evil Matriarch: The Human Resistance see Jamanen as this, though the truth is a bit more complicated...
  • Grand Finale: Destiny of the Jellax.
  • Grey-and-Grey Morality: What the series is at worst; the humans just want to survive, but the Jellax believe that they are helping rid the universe of all evil and suffering. The Human Resistance is willing to do terrible things, but it is in the name of protecting the rest of humanity, while the Jellax are unable or unwilling to take "no" for an answer. Of course, the presence Usagi and Black Lady change this.
  • God-Empress: Subverted; Jamanen might be Messianic Archetype in the eyes of herself and the Jellax, and the Jellax might revere her in an almost religious fashion, but the truth is that Jamanen does not consider herself divine, doesn't seem to have any intention (or desire) to be seen as a god, and is actually incredibly humble about her position as the Queen of the Jellax. However, that doesn't necessarily mean Jamanen minds playing God...
  • Happiness in Slavery: The Guardians might not have free will, or at least as much as the average Jellax, but they love their position, their Family, and their Queen with all their hearts and wouldn't dare dream of being disloyal to any of them.
  • Healing Hands: in the above mentioned crossover with Sofiathe First / Winx Club , sofia brings Back Naru's mother into humanity thanks to a spell casted by her hands[3]
  • Hive Mind: The Jellax Family, as a whole, have this, allowing them all to communicate with one another from long distances or, as shown by Jamanen, to physically experience what another person is experiencing. Though this "mind" is more of a "telepathic bond" than a "single mind over many bodies".
  • Immortal Procreation Clause: Averted. The story "Day of the Jellax" shows that Jellax can indeed reproduce. However, it needs to happen in a pool with a large group of Jellax. And if the story shows anything, only one "natural" Jellax is born from these pools in a great while.
  • Kill It with Ice: ...Sort of; the Jellax can't stand cold tempteratures and do freeze up if they get cold enough, but they don't "die" per se. Rather, they are just frozen and need to be thawed out. That being said, Word of God says Jellax can be killed with help from freezing: if they are frozen and shattered, with their pieces far away enough for long enough, they will actually die. Whether or not this has happened yet or will happen has yet to be seen.
    • The Human Resistance tried to utilize this with a superweapon in the story "On the Run". The scientist overseeing the experiment stops it from being built, though.
  • Last of Her Kind: Jamanen was this, till she turned the Senshi into Jellax and continued with more humans.
  • Messianic Archetype: Jamanen herself, to a certain extent. While she is not a prophesized figure, she does believe she is liberating humanity from all its negative attributes and heightening the positives. The Jellax also see her as a liberator-savior, but no one worships her as a god.
  • Multiple Endings: While the series isn't over just yet, there are indeed three planned "canon" endings. As of yet, no information has been given, other than their concept names:
    • "Usagi Wins" Ending
    • "Black Lady Wins" Ending
    • "Jamanen Wins" Ending
  • My Beloved Smother: Jamanen is probably one of the most extreme, and maybe even ''terrifying'', versions of this trope; while she loves those who aren't even her "children" (i.e. the Jellax) yet, she also does not respect a person's right to say "no" to her conversion process, as she believes all non-Jellax are in a constant state of suffering, hardship, loneliness, and despair, one that they deny exists, and the only possible solution is to become a Jellax and live with her and the Family forever.
  • No Biochemical Barriers: Played with. While the Jellax are able to convert humans, and possibly other humanoid creatures, into Jellax, some creatures cannot survive the conversion process (such as animals and plants, presumably). Arguably justified in regards to the fact that the universe of Sailor Moon is largely a Science Fantasy Magical Girl setting with a lot of openness in regards to the world, one with both aliens and magic users. Therefore, it's possible that the conversion events could be more based on either supernatural or scientific aspect. Due to the lack of information regarding how the process works, it leaves a lot open to interpretation and exploration.
  • Slime Girl: Technically "slime people", but the first Jellax shown in the series are all slime girls.
  • The High Queen: How Jamanen sees herself. The Jellax certainly agree, the humans... not so much.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Naru Osaka, big time. Going from being just Usagi's ignorant Muggle best friend, she becomes the leader of the Tokyo Resistance, holding out in what is essentially Jamanen's back yard for three months (the current timeframe of the whole Jellax war). Later stories will hopefully show whether or not she'll gain even greater power and influence.
  • Utopia Justifies the Means: The Jellax Family certainly think so. After all, when you are liberating people from harmful, self-destructive existences, why worry about consent?
  • White-and-Grey Morality: What the series is at its best. The Human Resistance desires to preserve humanity in its current state, while Jamanen believes that what she is doing is helping humans by elevating good qualities while taking away the bad. In the end, she is attempting to help people, but does so in the worst way possible.
  • Yandere: Jamanen, but more in a downplayed, motherly, "I know what's best for you, so stop thinking otherwise" kind of way.
