YMMV / Exodus (Band)

Go To

  • Audience-Alienating Era: Most fans will agree that Impact Is Imminent and Force of Habit just weren't very good albums; given that nothing from them (with the exception of Only Death Decides) has appeared on setlists in over a decade, it's pretty safe to say that Holt feels the same way. Exhibit A was also generally unpopular even among fans of the Dukes era, while Let There Be Blood was almost universally despised.
  • Common Knowledge: Exodus' most iconic album, Bonded by Blood doesn't actually have Zetro Souza on vocals like a lot of newcomers would think. Instead the album features Paul Baloff on vocals who was later fired for personal and musical differences. His death in 2002 ended the chances of him being in another album.
  • First Installment Wins: Bonded by Blood is by far their most well known work and is considered to be one of the best metal albums of all time.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: While the band had decent success in their home country, they did very well commercially in several Euro territories, such as Germany, the Netherlands and Austria.
  • Replacement Scrappy: Rob Dukes, though he's gradually become more respected, and even some fans are disappointed by his dismissal from the band in 2014 and the return of Steve Souza.
  • Signature Song:
    • "Bonded By Blood".
    • "The Toxic Waltz", which was probably the band's biggest commercial "hit".
  • Sophomore Slump: Pleasures of the Flesh, while not necessarily bad, is seen as vastly inferior to Bonded By Blood, and further sandwiched between it and the excellent third album Fabulous Disaster.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!:
    • This is the best way to describe Let There Be Blood, a re-recording of Bonded By Blood.
    • Any lineup change, specially of a frontman, triggers this.
    • The band's shift to a longer songwriting approach in later albums leaves some dry.
  • Win Back the Crowd: TWICE
    • After two disappointing albums following the well-received Fabulous Disaster, Exodus released Tempo of the Damned which was well received by both critics and fans.
    • After Rob Dukes' tenure with the band ended, 2014 saw Exodus releasing Blood In, Blood Out. Fans were very happy with Zetro Souza's return and the album also contained one of Exodus' newer iconic songs, "Salt the Wound", which notably had a guitar solo provided by Kirk Hammett.
