YMMV / Dumb Ways to Die

Go To

  • Anvilicious: The song abandons all subtlety (and rhyme) once it starts talking about trains, and saying "they may not rhyme but they're quite possibly the dumbest ways to die."
  • Awesome Art: Beautifully animated in Adobe Flash in 2.5D, i.e. outline-free designs made to look 3D by skewing the perspective.
  • Awesome Music: Arguably the reason the song went viral. The song is INSANELY catchy with lovely use of piano and acoustic guitar.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • If Tumblr gifsets are anything to go by, the most popular character is Dunce, thanks to his memetic butt-shaking dance.
    • Calamity, dubbed Mr. Potate before she was revealed to be female, also has a following. Lonniedos's playthrough of the iPhone game is probably to thank for this.
  • Memetic Mutation: This song was so popular, it got lots of parodies, and even a series of video games.
  • Nightmare Retardant: Public Service Announcements have notoriety for being scary beyond belief. Your usual PSA on train safety would go with haunting shots of children playing on a train track, creepy voiceovers, ominous music and our good old friend, the Scare Chord when the children invariably get hit by the said train, complete with Gorn. You know, the kind of PSA that would give you a lifelong fear of trains? This little ditty sugar coats the gore with cute little characters but still gets across the point to not mess around near trains quite nicely. This is proof that you don't have to terrify people into never leaving their house to get them to be safe.
  • No Problem with Licensed Games: The iOS video game is a very solid WarioWare clone that captures the video's sense of humor very well. The sequel is even better, with an absolutely humongous amount of minigames that are even more fun than the original's.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: The tilt mechanics in such levels as "Take your helmet off in outer space" and "Eat a tube of super glue", thanks to them being oversensitive and wonky. Thankfully, they can be turned off (depending on the game versions).
  • Squick:
    • When Lax throws up on the screen, and any scene with blood in it.
    • Lax's incident is even worse in the first app game — one of the mini-games is to wipe the puke off of the screen. Fail, and he walks away and slips on his own puke.
  • The Woobie: Dummkopf. He just looks so sad when his flesh is reduced to a pile of ash on the floor. All he wanted was his toast...
