YMMV / DreamWorks Super Star Kartz

Go To

  • Game-Breaker: As shown by TheFrozenCavern, Donkey is by far the most broken character in the game thanks to his absurdly high stats and his Super Star Move where he summons his Dronkey children which serves as a shield that can attack other players that refreshes every time you pick more stars so you’ll never run out of them and if you pick the generic shield items, you’re practically invincible for the entire race. As shown in the video, FrozenCavern was not surprised to find out that the leaderboards were almost nothing but Donkey players.
  • Porting Disaster: The 3DS port suffers from being a very poorly optimized port of the Wii version, with a reduced number of racers per race, the already poor audio suffering a huge quality downgrade, and an extremely slow, choppy framerate.
  • The Problem with Licensed Games: While the game plays perfectly well and has some nicely-designed tracks, it suffers from some really poorly implemented mechanics, a pathetically small roster, a weird selection of IPs with some pretty big omissions (with Kung Fu Panda and Megamind being some of the most glaring), and a severe lack of worthwhile modes.
  • The Scrappy: The “unlockable characters”... who are basically Shrek, Skipper and Alex with new costumes. Not only do they not have any different stats and in Alex’s case his changes are barely noticeable, but people hate them because they’re basically wasted character slots in an already pretty small roster that really could’ve used more characters.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: The Super Star Moves sound cool in concept but a lot of them don’t really benefit the player, the worst offenders being Alex and Fiona because theirs involve jumping on the nearest kart and distract/attack them… while your own kart is driving out of control since you can’t see it so after using it you have to manually put yourself back on the track, by which time the kart you attacked is already ahead of you.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Instead of each character having their own unique vehicle like in previous and future DreamWorks racing games, here they instead have generic go karts with different colors and decals. Needless to say, a lot of fans found this to be really lazy and disappointing.
