- Ass Pull: Goku's Super Dragon Fist technique, which is used to defeat Hirudegarn, comes out of nowhere with zero foreshadowing and anticipation and it feels incredibly anticlimactic when Hirudegarn is defeated. That said, this was widely received as good enough to accept for the most part.
- Awesome Music: Tapion's Ocarina theme is amazing. Both the original and the American version.
- Complete Monster: Hoi is a representative of the Kashvar, a cabal of alien mystics who believe all species other than their own should be enslaved or massacred. Responsible for multiple planetary genocides, the Kashvar were defeated when their attempt to use the colossal demon Hirudegarn to destroy planet Conuts was thwarted by the heroic brothers Tapion and Minosha. Surviving the subsequent downfall of the order, Hoi stewed for a thousand years before tricking Goku and his friends into using the Dragon Balls to revive the monster, gleefully commanding Hirudegarn to slaughter the cities of Earth in his campaign against all "inferior beings".
- Contested Sequel: While the movie is definitely considered one of Dragon Balls' better stories due to its emphasis on story telling and developing its characters in a believable way, it comes after Fusion Reborn, which is a widely praised movie in its own right.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: Sachi Matsumoto voices Minotia, Tapion's brother where Tapion himself is compared to Link. Matsumoto goes on to voice Link in The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and his Toon Link counterpart in the Super Smash Bros. series.
- Moment of Awesome: Yes, the Super Dragon Fist is a massive Ass Pull that doesn't really fit the movie it's in. But as Team Four Star lampshades, it still looks awesome.
- Narm: Hirudegarn's scream in Latin America is not that great, sounding like some middle aged man having a tantrum instead of a giant monster.
- Older Than They Think: It's not uncommon for people to make comparisons between Tapion and Link from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, however Wrath of the Dragon predates that game by roughly three years. Then again, Link uses an ocarina in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (1991), even though the English translation calls it a flute.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: The Konatsian Wizard who found the sword, the ocarinas and actually defeated Hirudegarn doesn't even get a name, let alone word on his final fate. As he sounded awesome, some fans would've liked to know more about the guy. In the end, he's been more less absorbed into Tapion's character with the latter even using his signature move in the games the hero appears in.
