  • The main theme "Profondo Rosso" is a great tone setter for a creepy and bloody Giallo.
  • "Mad Puppet" is a good example of Soundtrack Dissonance as it is a catchy jazz song that plays while someone dies onscreen.
• Big-Lipped Alligator Moment:
  • Helga is a legitimate telepath whose abilities kick off the movie's plot, but the rest of the movie is more grounded in reality with no further mention of psychic powers, which makes the opening rather odd in comparison.
  • The robot dummy mentioned below. Where did the killer even obtain that thing, and why was it only used that one time?
• Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The film is very popular in Japan.
• Jerkass Woobie: Carlo attempts to murder the protagonists and severely injures one of them, but it's because of his excessive loyalty to his murderous mother, who traumatized him by murdering his own father. This is without mentioning his drinking problem as well as his difficulty with being a gay/bisexual man in 70's Italy.
• Older Than They Think: The color scheme was done before in Mario Bava's Blood and Black Lace although Argento took it up to eleven. In Suspiria (1977), he took it even further than eleven.
• One-Scene Wonder: Massimo, the resident Camp Gay who is in exactly one scene and contributes almost nothing to the plot, yet is highly memorable for being perhaps the nicest character in the entire movie.
• Signature Scene: The robot dummy attacking Dr. Giordani is one of the best known moments from the film.
