YMMV / Dead No More: The Clone Conspiracy

Go To

  • Base-Breaking Character: The Jackal is the main villain, what did you expect? To be fair, this is probably an improvement considering how long the fanbase loathed him for masterminding the Clone Saga. While many fans were not happy with the reveal, the revelations for the Faceā€“Heel Turn also made him sympathetic and made him work as a compelling villain.
  • Broken Base: The decision to replace Electro with a new female counterpart has divided the fanbase in two. Some people like the idea of a female Electro who can actually use those powers to their full potential, but the vast majority of the fans see it as Slott meaninglessly shafting a decades-old character in order to pander to the female audience, rather than just create a full-fledged new villainess.
  • It Was His Sled: Ben Reilly is the Jackal.
  • Moment of Awesome: The fact that Gwen Stacy, Mattie Franklin and Jean DeWolff stand their ground, knowing they're going to die is a lot more satisfying than the deaths they got the first time around.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Ben willingly kicking off the Zombie Apocalypse in issue 4.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
    • Many of the reactions towards the end of the series have essentially been "Why did X have to die again?", more or less disappointed that a character who was unceremoniously killed off was brought back only to suffer the same fate again.
    • Inverted with some villains hated by fans (like Massacre) back from the dead. Some were upset that only the villains got to stay alive, even if it's left ambiguous just which of them stayed alive.
  • Tear Jerker: Rhino raging over his wife's death. Not to mention that after Spider-Man is finally able to talk him down, he just cries into his hands. Even Evil Has Loved Ones indeed.
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring:
    • The reaction to the umpteenth retcon of Gwen Stacy's death: before the Goblin knocked her off the bridge, Gwen had woken up and heard Spidey call himself "Peter". She died hating him for the death of her father and is now an ally of the Jackal. Somewhat elevated in later issues, when she gets to have a heart-to-heart with Peter.
    • The Reveal that the Jackal this time around is really Ben Reilly hasn't helped matters.
  • Unexpected Character:
    • It's a safe bet to say no one expected Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin of Crime, to appear in this event.
    • Due to the fact she lives on another earth, no one expected Spider-Gwen to show up.
    • Ben Reilly was a popular candidate for who would be "dead no more", especially once the subtitle was announced, but no one was expecting him to be The Jackal.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: Peter, in the Omega one shot when he's essentially treated as a jerk for grieving Gwen because Earth-65 Gwen is around, this ignores the fact he's mourning someone he loved and the fact Earth-65 Gwen does the same thing actively avoiding Peter when she crosses into 616 because of her Peter's death, this was even pointed out by Peter in Issue #2.
