YMMV / Dayshift at Freddy's

Go To

  • Complete Monster: Dr. Henry Miller is a dangerous Serial Killer and Mad Scientist who killed numerous kids in his own circus and pizzeria and put their souls into machines in the hope of having a soul helping him to pass the barrier that divides the living world from the afterlife. Henry manipulates his own "partner" William Afton into helping him, only to then arrange his horrible fate in a suit, conducting horrible experiments on him when William comes Back from the Dead, and causing a multitude of deaths throughout the Freddy Fazbender locations, eventually damning numerous souls and causing more destruction. In the "Evil Route", Henry possesses Jack after the latter kills William, intending to continue his killing spree.
  • Fridge Horror: During the final battle of the True Ending to the third game, you find out that Henry has become so powerful that he can literally knock people unconscious with the weight of his Brutal Honesty. Now, think back to the tipping point of the Pure Evil ending in the second game; The Great Fredbear is mustering up any resolve he can... and Old Sport proceeds to lay down a cold, monstrous rant that has enough truth laced into it to drain Fredbear's defense to zero, exactly like Henry can do to the party in 3. Considering Henry was also repeatedly shown to be a threat to humanity at large due to his usage of that power, just how much worse would things be once that kind of evil is now unchecked due to missing the external counterbalances that made Henry possible to seal away?
  • Heartwarming Moments: Happiest Day, the second game's Golden Ending. With The Real Fredbear's help, you and Phone Guy stop Dave from killing any more children, then you and the Puppet give every single soul that was trapped in the restaurants (The five you saved in the course of your playthrough, the Puppet, and also an entire audience of souls that Old Sport saved before coming to the restaurant in DSaF2) a final sendoff, as well as an apology for everything that Freddy's has done to the children.
  • Ho Yay: A lot of Jack x Dave ship teasings is sprinkled throughout the series.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Oh, so many.
    • Old Sport absolutely loves to cause chaos and piss off Phone Guys, but he's been chasing after Dave for a long while to help the children killed by him pass on and have their happiest day. He's had to watch his whole family be taken away from him by Freddy's, and even he himself can never be whole again due to Fredbear being unable to reunite him with his soul. By the end of everything, he can't pass on due to his lack of a soul, but still sacrifices himself to make sure that every soul still enmeshed with the living world is released.
    • Dave is a notable child murderer, but his childhood was not the best. His purple skin made it difficult for him to be loved by anybody, and he was swiftly orphaned. The only person who appeared to care for him was Henry Miller, who only ever saw Dave as a tool and experiment. To this end, he rigged Dave's suit to kill him, simply to test a theory of his, and once it was proven correct, he went all in and experimented on Dave, taking away an organ every month. Dave was so devoted to Henry that he simply repossessed his corpse every time he died. Even now, Dave himself knows how evil Henry was, but he's unable to move on and change his ways until his conscience literally separates itself from his soul to help Jack stop Henry and his living self once and for all.
    • While the Phone Guys can be rude, they have to deal with you and Dave every day. This gets even worse once it's revealed that the Phone Guys are all mass-produced cyborgs made from workers who died at Freddy's, being supplemented with fake memories to make sure they don't remember who they once were. Considering how shady Freddy Fazbenders is, it's heavily unlikely they told any loved ones what happened. The second game's Phone Guy in particular explains it rather chillingly how he's had to deal with the consequences of you and Dave killing five children, while you get off without feeling any of it.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Henry crosses it when he starts experimenting on William (who had already been killed before by him but repossessed his own corpse just to stay with Henry), anesthetizing him once a month and removing his organs and portions of his brain, making him slowly go insane and turning him into the Serial Killer we all know.
