YMMV / Dave Matthews Band

Go To

  • Archive Panic: According to their discography page on The Other Wiki as of December 2023, the band has released 10 studio albums, 104 live albums (64 as part of the Live Trax series and 23 as part of the DMB Live series), 5 compilations, 8 video albums, 2 E Ps and 37 singles.
  • Award Snub: The band topped the fan vote for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2020, despite this they were not inducted that year, time will tell when they'll properly get inducted.
  • Broken Base:
    • The fanbase experienced a schism after Butch Taylor's departure from the band on the eve of the 2008 tour and Tim Reynolds coming in as his replacement, resulting in the band's shift from a jazz-centered sound to a more rock-oriented one.
    • Also triggered by Boyd Tinsley announcing his sabbatical in February 2018. Later transformed into a Broken Pedestal situation when the reasons for said sabbatical came to light, and the introduction of Buddy Strong as Boyd's replacement resulted in a looser, re-energized band hitting the road that summer.
  • Misblamed: During one show in Chicago, their tour bus driver emptied out the bus's septic tank over the Kinzie Street Bridge, unknowingly covering a passing boat and its passengers with raw sewage. To this very day, the band is blamed for the incident despite having no involvement, if only because it gives their critics an excuse to hate them even more.
  • Narm: Everything on Stand Up, for sounding so completely out-of-character.
  • Replacement Scrappy: Jeff Coffin (who replaced LeRoi Moore on sax after the latter's tragic death) mostly manages to avert this among reasonable fans. It doesn't hurt that he used to be a member of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, who have opened for Dave Matthews Band on several tours.
  • Signature Song: "Ants Marching" and "Crash into Me" are probably their best known songs from a commercial standpoint.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: The opening notes of "Fool To Think" sound similar to the main theme of Matilda.
