YMMV / DJ Earworm

Go To

  • Signature Song: "United State of Pop 2009 (Blame It on the Pop)" is DJ Earworm's most famous mashup, and it's what made him and his mashup style blow up in popularity.

  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: As the title suggests, "United State of Pop 2012 (Shine Bright)" focuses on lyrics about bright lights and fire, so one would expect "Lights" by Ellie Goulding to have a significant presence, but the only lyric used from that song is "and I'm not sleeping now", which has nothing to do with the main theme (though the instrumentals are also used).

  • Tough Act to Follow: "United State of Pop 2009 (Blame It on the Pop)" is almost unanimously considered his magnum opus, to the point where every single mashup released after it, sometimes even outside of the "United State of Pop" series, is negatively compared to it. It doesn't help that many fans see his mashups through a Nostalgia Filter, so a recurring "defense" for his later mashups being "worse" is that "it's not Earworm's fault, it's music nowadays that sucks".

  • Unexpected Character: "United State of Pop 2023 (Cut The Flowers)" has several surprising entries, such as "Lavender Haze", "Under the Influence", "Just Wanna Rock", and especially "Need a Favor" (peaking at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100, it's so far the lowest-peaking song to be used in a United State of Pop installment).note

  • Vindicated by History: It's not rare for a USPOP mashup that initially got "2009 was better" reactions to eventually get retroactive praise as the years go by and those once fresh songs also start to become nostalgic.
