  • Awesome Music:
    • The new soundtrack in the English dub of the anime is full of awesome music, such as this opening track.
    • The Japanese original also has its gems, like the beautiful ED theme Aishiteru kamoshirenai (Maybe I'm in love with you) by Hidemi Miura.
    • The original opening, Burning World, is a real banger as well, with a great melody and a great bi-lingual singer. No Engrish here.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: The scene in episode three where a trio of freaks drop a cage on Benten and try to roast him with a flamethrower. How are they connected to the episode's plot? Not at all. Benten even asks them who hired them to kill him, and the leader is briefly confused before telling him that nobody did, they just like killing cops. Then Benten deals with them and that's that, with their only relevance being that they distract Benten enough for Kerry to get the drop on him.
  • Complete Monster: Shuzo Saionji is a ruthless corporate mogul obsessed with immortality. To this end, Saionji had countless innocents taken and subjected to horrific genetics experiments in a quest to find the secret to eternal life. Only one woman survived, mutated into a vampire-like being. Seeking to acquire her secrets for himself, Saionji had his collaborators murdered and later uses his new knowledge to turn himself into a young, healthy vampire as well before trying to murder his past victim who has come to revenge by draining her entirely of blood to gain her strength.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The below meme quote is especially funny when you realize Benten is voiced by Daniel Flynn, who also voiced Solaire of Astora, another Fountain of Memes character. If that wasn't enough he would also voice Alfred from Bloodborne, a hunter who's mission is to hunt down Bloodborne's version of vampires.
  • Memetic Mutation: "You wouldn't recognize a goddamn vampire if one jumped up and bit you on the end of your fucking dick."
  • Moment of Awesome: The very first post-titles scene of the first episode sees Sengoku bringing in a criminal who is flying down Oedo Bay in a one-man hover-jet. Sengoku has Varsus raise the bridge over the bay, then revs his car up and uses the raised bridge as a ramp to jump it across the gap. In mid-air he opens the car door and throws himself out to drop down onto the hover-jet, perfectly landing on top of the cockpit, then dodging the gunfire from the perp's Arm Cannon, shooting the blade from his jitte through the arm, then stomping on the guy's face to bring him in. While heavily hung-over. And judging from the minor reduction he got to his sentence for the capture, it seems that this is merely routine for him.
  • Narm Charm:
    • Even those who don't like Oedo tend to admit it is a classic within the raunchy 80's Japanese adult anime genre.
    • Many fans think the English dub's excessive swearing doesn't feel quite as forced as it was in other Manga UK dubs because the three main characters are streetwise convicts who'd be likely to cuss a blue streak in real life. (Then again, there are plenty of foul-mouthed people who aren't criminals and vice-versa, so make of that what you will.)
  • Nausea Fuel: Saoinji's corpse after he is killed looks downright grotesque...
  • Retroactive Recognition: Benten's voice actor, Daniel Flynn, would later go on to play Solaire from Dark Souls and Alfred from Bloodborne. Amusingly, the latter character is a hunter hellbent on slaying his universe's version of vampires, though no records are shown of him being bitten in the dick.
  • So Bad, It's Good: Usually applied to the profanity-laden English dub and the dub dialogue. While the acting is actually pretty good, the excessive swearing and occasional bit of completely unnecessary British slang delivered in a confident American accent can make it fall into Narm Charm Territory.
  • Tear Jerker: The end of Benten and Remy's Star-Crossed Lovers deal. Specially when he gives her a Last Kiss and releases her capsule into space...
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: Benten. His introduction as he is doing gymnastics show his outlines very feminine. According to an interview, he was supposed to be a she, but the idea was shot down.
