  • Adorkable:
    • King Jack. Whilst he may be overprotective, he's undeniably a very sweet old man. When he writes a list of rules for his daughters' to follow whilst he's away on an expedition, the last rule is: "Always remember that Papa loves you."
    • This slowly begins to fade away as of Chapter 79. The character never stops acting any differently than he did previously, but the negative effect his smothering has on his children's lives is being given increasing emphasis and the CPC, upon learning more about Gwen's family, become immediately suspicious that her father might be hiding something.
  • Anvilicious: Pretty much anything regarding the "Princels". They are portrayed with about as much subtlety and nuance as that name implies.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Laverne, "the Plaid Kingdom's most pampered llama," is extremely popular whenever she shows up.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap:
    • Prince Frederick was immediately hated for hurting Gwen's emotions when he revealed to his brother that he found her ugly. He earned some sympathy from fans in Chapter 33 where it was showed that he felt like a loser among his brothers, the harsh way his father treated him and the bullying he received during his military training, because of his love for books. His gradual journey of recognising his flaws and striving towards self-improvement has slowly endeared him to fans. Him being the Butt-Monkey also helps in making him pay for his previous unpleasant behaviour whilst simultaneously making him sympathetic as the sheer amount of misfortune, misunderstandings and unusual punishments thrown his way reaches levels that Crosses the Line Twice.
    • Prince Whitney was a Hate Sink who schemed to control his fiance by murdering one of her friends. When it's later revealed that he's still alive, and has gone on a lengthy journey of self-discovery to become The Atoner he slowly started winning people over both in-universe and out. Especially once the way his family operates and how he was raised is brought up, providing a Freudian Excuse for why he didn't realise at the time that his actions were a major overreaction.
    • Queen Isolde is an interesting case of a character who was previously The Scrappy- due to being assumed to be going along with her husband's treatment of her sons- skyrocketing to this status in a few pages. The reveal that Isolde has been diminished and minimized in her own home by her husband, and that she has secretly been working against him as much as she can, albeit through the only underhanded methods available to her, made her a much more interesting and likable character. That she deeply regrets her actions- and that the more we learn of the Plaid King's goals, the more justified she seems in trying to stop them in any way she can- has only increased how much the fanbase adores her.
    • King Jack's reception from the readers has begun to warm after it's shown how quickly he denounced his parents when they finally insulted Leelathea in front of him, calling out their obsession with beauty and stating they were ugly for their behavior. For all his faults, it's clear without a doubt that his love for his wife and their children is nothing but genuine. The pedestal was fully repaired in the penultimate episode, where he revealed he understood he couldn't sacrifice the happiness of his daughters to fulfill a promise to their mother and instead went off on a journey to bring their maternal grandparents and Leelathae's friends to the Pastel Castle.
  • The Scrappy:
    • Prince Frederick pretty much jinxed it for himself when he loudly and unapologetically called Gwen ugly. The fact that he keeps assuming the worst of her whenever she tries to hold a polite conversation with him, solely because of her looks, and only seems to double down on his shallowness as the comic goes on also didn't exactly help endear him to fans. He's started to garner some sympathy after Chapter 33 (see Rescued from the Scrappy Heap above), but fans overall agree that he should really clean up his act.
    • As of Chapter 79, the Pastel King has started slipping into this. While there were always fans who thought that his overprotective attitude towards his daughters was abusive and creepy rather than endearing, the aforementioned Chapter 79 convinced even the most stubborn of his defenders that he was going way too far. He isolates his daughters to the point of forbidding the guards to even look at them, kept them from forming any sort of relationships with boys their age their whole lives and even tried to put their marriages which he arranged off, simply because he couldn't bear the thought of his little girls growing up and wanting to do more, e-hem, "adult" things with their soon-to-be husbands. The icing on the cake comes when he strong-arms himself into their lessons, patronizes and dismisses his children's career choices and pulls rank to prevent the teacher from throwing him out.
  • Ugly Cute: Gwen is drawn to emphasise her witch-like appearance with sharp teeth, a slit nose, and bulging eyes. But her personality and actions make her adorable all the same.
