YMMV / Condemned: Criminal Origins

Go To

  • Anti-Climax Boss: The final boss goes down pretty easy even without a strong weapon. Hell, it can actually be kicked to death if Ethan is unable to use weapons due to a possible bug.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Comes in the form of comic relief during the fight with an obese butcher lady.
  • Difficulty Spike: The last combat section before the Final Boss requires the player to take down a small army of melee combatants in a cramped barn that offers no refuge and only a few health packs. Oh, and the player has to beat them without having access to the overpowered Taser they've probably been relying on for most of the game.
  • Game-Breaker: The taser is pretty broken as it stuns enemies as expected, making them open to an easy beat down, with a quick recharge allowing it to be reused several times. However, making matters worse however is that later on it gets upgraded. It basically turns the game into a cake walk, as the super taser's shots can instantly down enemies and make them drop their weapons.
  • Good Bad Bugs: Rosa's character model is just a modified version of Ethan's. As a result on next generation systems you can see more of her/Ethan's model. Notably she had Ethan's stubble/beard.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • A man named Ethan has to track down an enigmatic serial killer and clear his name as the primary suspect of said killer's murders who later has one of his fingers cut off by the killer. 5 years later...
    • As Pyrocynical points out, Greg Grunberg voices protagonist Ethan Thomas, a man of the law who has the power of precognition, among other things. Grunberg would later on play Matt Parkman in Heroes, who is also a man of the a law that has the power of precognition among other things.
  • Moral Event Horizon: While a character like SKX would normally be considered an Anti-Villain at worst, he crosses the line into straightforward villainy by gunning down two police officers in cold blood and leaving Ethan to be blamed for the double murder. The prequel game reveals that he had also killed an FBI agent who was investigating another series of murders.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: To certain fans the Throw-Away Guns and the inability to reload, collect ammunition or carry more than one weapon. The sequel changed this, but even so ammo and guns are still rare to come by, so you'll still spend most of the game using either melee weapons or your own fists.
