YMMV / City Hunter: Shinjuku Private Eyes

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The slightly modernized Cat's Eye theme playing for the return of the Kisugi sisters is a kickass throwback to their series from The '80s.
  • Complete Monster: Shinji Mikuni is the leader of a terrorist group which torments Ai Shindo on a daily basis. Having kidnapped her father years ago, Shinji forced him to build drones, which later drove him to suicide as soon as he realized what Shinji's master plan really was. In the present, Shinji targets Ai in order to get the key and release the drones her father locked away, doing so by sending armed attackers after her even when she's in public. Shinji is also obsessed with killing Ryo, which he attempts to do by swaying his childhood friend Kaori over to his side, getting angry when she refuses. After attacking the innocent people of Shinjuku with the drones and killing one of his own partners, Shinji turns the gun on Kaori herself for not wanting to help him gain power.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: Many a Cat's Eye fan checked this one out just to see the Kisugi sisters for their first appearance in animation in 34 years.
  • One-Scene Wonder: The Kisugi sisters are not in the film for long, but they make quite a kickass comeback 34 years after their last animated appearance, even if they don't directly participate in taking down the Big Bad. It apparently made enough of an effect to pit them against Lupin III afterwards, in Lupin III Vs Cat's Eye.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: Despite things like smartphones now existing, the film still has the characters sport '80s Hair and drive cars from the era, and when the Mobius control console gets shot apart at the end by Ryo, the internals look like something from a late 1980s computer.
