YMMV / Brother Bear 2

Go To

  • I Knew It!: How many didn't suspect Nita being transformed into a bear at the end?
  • Just Here for Godzilla: Nita's pretty much considered the one redeeming point of the movie by the fans.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Kenai actually bleeding during the final battle against Atka, which is very disturbing as the first movie for some reason didn't have blood, not even when Kenai kills Koda's mother, leading to his Karmic Transformation.
  • Padding: The scenes with the moose brothers attempting to catch the attention of the moosettes just exist to pad out the movie’s already short runtime.
  • Questionable Casting: Would it have killed the filmmakers to cast an actor who could at least closely imitate Joaquin Phoenix, instead of somebody with a completely different-sounding voice?
  • So Okay, It's Average: The movie is generally seen as head and shoulders above most of the other direct-to-video Disney sequels (not that it was a high bar), but still not necessarily anything to write home about. It doesn't help that, much like Aladdin: The Return of Jafar with Genie, the change in voice casting for Kenai hangs over the movie at all times.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Many fans found Patrick Dempsey's performance as Kenai to be bland and unmemorable compared to Joaquin Phoenix's portrayal from the first film note . The fact that Dempsey and Phoenix don't sound at all alike doesn't help matters.
  • They Wasteda Perfectly Good Character: The fact that Denahi noticeably does not reappear in the sequel did not bode well for many fans, seeing this as wasted potential as he could've easily been a guest attending Kenai and Nita's wedding at the end of the film. However, his absence from the sequel was most likely done out of respect for the death of his voice actor Jason Raize, who committed suicide after the first movie, making that movie his only appearance ever in movie history.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: While it obviously can't hold a candle to the original movie's animation quality and in general is not much to write home about, the general look is still very close to the original. It doesn't look as jarringly different as most DTV Disney spinoffs do compared to their originals.
