YMMV / Brandon Rogers

  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • When the Magic Funhouse gang are looking for records of Arlo's parents in the hall of records, Arlo goes straight to the death certificates. Though all evidence says he didn't know until later in the series, did Arlo know, deep down, that his parents were dead and not missing? Or was it just a coincidence that he didn't think about at first?
    • Is Sir Mr. Bill-Man from Stuff & Sam! a Female Misogynist who pretends to be a man out of an Irrational Hatred of her own gender, or are they a transman who also happens to hate cis-women?
  • Awesome Music: An episode of "Magic Funhouse" gives us an emotional, heartstring-tugging song about love from Cliff. His actor's singing voice is phenomonally moving.
    • Although it's only a few seconds long, Bobby Worst's song in the middle of "Blame the Hero"'s third episode is catchy as all hell—Brandon clearly has a blast performing it.
  • Alternative Joke Interpretation: In "Hall Monitor Helen", Helen finds an obscene drawing made by students alluding to her being in an orgy, and tells the offscreen Diane not to laugh because it's "a good night" for her. Does Helen mean the drawing depicts a situation she considers to make for a good night, thus that it's an accurate depiction of something she's done which she had no shame in, or does she mean that the drawing will give her a good night by serving as masturbation material and depicting something she fantasizes about?
  • Bizarro Episode: Even for the non-sense comedy of the show, "Stuff & Sam"'s "My Halloween Special" is just a single Big-Lipped Alligator Moment. It in no way ties to the main plotline that was already in motion and ends with Sam, for no reason, going back in time and erasing the day's events, except that he committed tax fraud.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: If you don't think it's offensive and reprehensible, then his humor does this.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: "A Day at the Park" includes Mr. Rimmer, who was a surprise due to the relative oldness of the Theater Class videos, making it unsure if he was part of the established universe. Later, another bowl-haired and eccentric acting coach would make a surprise return to a comedy series.
    • One of Grandpa's episodes has him (played by Brandon) claim to have "some spooky-ass demons" (one of whom is also Brandon). Come episode six of Helluva Boss, and Blitzo (Brandon again) faces his own spooky-ass demons.
    • The third episode of "Magic Funhouse"'s second season has Arlo—played by Brandon—lament that he can't do everything on his show by himself. It's a very serious and touching moment, but one that becomes harder to take seriously after several crossover episodes where Brandon plays virtually every character shown.
    • "Kathy Vs Karen" begins with a dispute over a parking space—many months later, the third episode of another Brandon Rogers project begins much the same way.
  • LGBT Fanbase: Brandon's videos are very popular among the LGBT community, judging by the meme references. Some of the Memetic Mutation of the videos have become particularly popular among gay fans like "Move, I'm gay!".
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • "Try me, bitch." from "Grandpa Hates Valentimes" became very popular on Vine, and was remixed to have different objects being thrown at Grandpa.
    • "Move, I'm gay!"
    • "There's only thing worst than a rapist..." *tears off paper above 'rapist', revealing 'child'* "A child!" "No... a child rapist."
    • "WHO JUST ASSAULTED ME WITH A CHALUPA?!"
    • "Are you threatening me with 9/11?!"
  • Mexicans Love Speedy Gonzales: You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone actually offended by the videos making fun of them. For example, a lot of British viewers love watching Lord and Lady Mingeworthy's antics and joke about it being accurate to British culture.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Future RuPaul's Drag Race contestant Kornbread "The Snack" Jeté appeared in several of Roger's videos.
  • Spiritual Successor:
    • To Sacha Baron Cohen, who heavily inspired Brandon's sense of offensive comedy.
    • To The Filthy Frank Show. Due to the similar offensive and crude humor, as well as constant Acting for Two, many consider Brandon to be the new Frank ever since Joji canceled the show.
  • Squick: Considering the type of humor that Brandon Rogers does, this is to be expected. Some notable examples include:
    • A lot of scenes in “No Parents”, particularly the "starblasters" that the kids play with, Sebastian throwing up inside an astronaut helmet, and Sebastian popping Ignacio’s pimple.
    • Jurgen washing his face with the British People's toilet in "Halloween Therapy".
    • Ashley “pissing” on her backpack in “Every Chick Flick Ever”.
  • Unexpected Character: Alex Rimmer in "A Day At the Park". The "Theater Class" videos were much older than Brandon's more well-known (and crazier) ensemble, so it wasn't expected that they shared a universe.
    • Many people were shocked that the Nuclear Family from the 2016 video made an appearance in the first episode of "Blame the Hero", where it was revealed that the nuke they were counting down to was the one Bobby Worst launched.
  • The Woobie: Karen (The Theatre Class character not the character based on the Karen meme) has been an outcast all her life, gets all manner of abuse from her teacher and all of her classmates, her mother dies, and she becomes paraplegic due to a tranquilizer shot to the spine during her one moment of standing up for herself (and still gets picked on).
    • Arlo Dittman...poor boy. At six years old, his father misses his mother in an argument and the punch instead hits Arlo's head hard enough to put him in a 22-year coma. When he wakes up, he's missed his whole adolescence and his parents have been missing for years. The only person to care for him is a batty old neighbor who can't remember anything for long, and when Arlo does meet his parents again it's at their graves. They had both been dead the whole time, and everyone but Arlo knew it, but no one wanted to take away his hope that they'd find him again.
    • Cockwaddle. Most of his screentime relegates him to Butt-Monkey status at the hands of either Jürgen or his parents, and it gets worse in "A Day at the Beach". There, it's revealed that he was kidnapped from his birth father, who turns out to be Jürgen, and when he attempted to leave, the Mingeworthys crippled him so severely that he is constrained to a wheelchair with no means of talking outside of an automated box. Additionally, his real father cannot recognize him because Jürgen was blinded the day Cockwaddle was abducted.
